Major Policy Shift for Andhra Pradesh Intermediate Students
In a significant development aimed at easing academic pressure and enhancing opportunities for students, the Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a new policy that allows second-year intermediate students to appear for improvement examinations. According to Board of Intermediate Education secretary P Ranjit Basha, this decision was made following an extensive review of improvement policies implemented in other states, with student welfare positioned as the central focus. The new system will operate under specific guidelines:
- Both passed and failed second-year students will be permitted a single opportunity to improve their marks

- Improvement will not be permitted for practical examinations
Implementation Timeline and Examination Details
The policy will come into effect with the upcoming advanced supplementary examinations scheduled to take place from May 21 to June 4. Students who appeared for their second-year intermediate examinations last month will have the option to reappear for subjects they wish to improve, including those they have already successfully passed.
For students who failed their second-year examinations, there will be no restriction on the number of attempts to clear the subjects until they achieve a passing grade. This provision has been specifically designed to reduce academic pressure and provide continued opportunities for academic success.
Fee Structure and Application Process
To avail of the improvement examination option, students will need to pay an examination fee of ₹600, along with an additional ₹160 per subject they wish to improve. The fee payment window will be open from April 20 to April 27, providing students with a clear timeframe for submitting their applications and payments.
