Assam TET 2026 Application Process Begins

The Government of Assam has officially commenced the recruitment drive for educators in regional language medium schools by releasing the notification for the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026. This unique examination aims to address the critical shortage of qualified teachers in schools that operate in various regional languages across the state.

Key Dates and Application Process

The official notification was published on January 6, 2026. Aspiring candidates can submit their applications through a fully online process that started on January 7, 2026. The authorities have set February 7, 2026 as the final date for registration. No applications will be accepted after this deadline.

Interested individuals must apply exclusively through the designated official portals: sebaonline.org, ssa.assam.gov.in, or scert.assam.gov.in. The application involves a multi-step procedure:

  2. Click on the Assam TET 2026 application link.
  3. Complete the initial registration with basic details.
  4. Log in using the provided credentials.
  5. Fill in personal and educational information accurately.

  8. Pay the application fee through online modes.
  9. Submit the final form and download the confirmation page for future reference.

Exam Fee, Eligibility, and Pattern

The application fee structure is tiered based on category. General category candidates need to pay Rs 550 per paper. Applicants from SC, ST, OBC, and MOBC categories are required to pay Rs 450 per paper, while Persons with Disabilities (PwD) have a fee of Rs 300 per paper. Those applying for both Paper I and Paper II must pay the fee separately for each. All fees are non-refundable.

Eligibility criteria are clearly defined:

  • For Paper I (Lower Primary, Classes 1-5): Senior Secondary pass with a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or a Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) as per NCTE norms.
  • For Paper II (Upper Primary, Classes 6-8): A graduation degree along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), D.El.Ed, or an equivalent integrated teacher education course.

A crucial requirement is that all applicants must be permanent residents of Assam. Reserved category candidates will receive relaxations in minimum qualifying marks as per prevailing government rules.

The exam will be conducted in offline (pen-and-paper) mode. Both papers will feature 150 multiple-choice questions to be answered within 2 hours and 30 minutes. There will be no negative marking. The syllabus encompasses Child Development and Pedagogy, language proficiency tests, and subject-specific knowledge.

Validity, Purpose, and Important Notes

This Special Assam TET has been introduced primarily to recruit teachers for regional language medium schools, including those teaching in Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar languages. To qualify, general category candidates must secure at least 60% marks. Lower qualifying marks are applicable for reserved categories as per standard norms.

Successful candidates will receive a TET certificate valid for a lifetime. However, it is vital to understand that clearing the TET is only an eligibility criterion and does not guarantee a teaching job. Actual appointments will be made by the state education department through separate recruitment processes as and when vacancies arise.

Prospective applicants are strongly advised to thoroughly read the official notification available on the websites before initiating the application process to ensure they meet all conditions and understand the procedure completely.
