Bhagalpur District Education Department Launches ICT Labs for KGBV Schoolgirls
In a significant push to enhance digital literacy among rural students, the district education department in Bhagalpur has initiated a comprehensive program to connect schoolgirls from 25 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) with advanced digital learning resources. This initiative focuses on establishing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories to provide these students with access to computers, internet connectivity, and smart classroom facilities.
Bridging the Urban-Rural Education Divide
Officials have emphasized that the primary objective of this ambitious project is to bridge the persistent gap between urban and rural students. By targeting KGBV girls—who predominantly come from underprivileged and rural backgrounds—the program aims to ensure they are not left behind in an increasingly digital world. District Programme Officer (Establishment, Education) Babita Kumari stated on Friday that this initiative seeks to connect students to the digital realm and equip them with fundamental computer knowledge, preparing them for higher studies and competitive environments.
This ICT lab project in Bihar represents a key component of the government's efforts to modernize education in government schools under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) of the Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC). The scheme is designed to provide students with essential digital literacy and technical skills through dedicated computer labs and smart classes, fostering a more inclusive educational landscape.
Comprehensive Implementation and Training Framework
Kumari highlighted that ICT labs will enable both students and teachers to access digital resources, improve teaching methodologies, and prepare learners for technology-driven careers. She described this as a major advancement in digital education for girls, noting that ICT labs have been set up in nearly all KGBVs, with preparations for computer education being expedited.
A structured timetable for computer classes is currently being finalized, and training will be conducted accordingly to ensure systematic learning. To monitor progress and outcomes, monthly assessments will be implemented, with high-performing students receiving rewards as incentives to encourage excellence.
Review Meeting and Collaborative Efforts
During a review meeting chaired by Kumari to assess the progress of ICT labs and smart classes, modalities for imparting computer training and basic technical skills to students were outlined. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including District Component In-Charge (KGBV) Mukesh Kumar, MIS In-Charge Shiv Kumar, ICT instructors, and representatives from all KGBVs.
Mukesh Kumar reinforced the initiative's goal of providing modern technical education—encompassing computer learning and smart classes—to rural girls enrolled in KGBVs, many of whom belong to marginalized sections of society. This collaborative effort underscores the district's commitment to empowering these students through digital tools and resources.
By integrating ICT labs into the educational framework, Bhagalpur aims to create a more equitable learning environment, ensuring that rural schoolgirls gain the skills necessary to thrive in a technology-centric future.
