CBSE Class 10 Results 2026: Bengaluru Region Maintains 98.9% Pass Rate, Secures Third Position Nationally

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the Class 10 examination results for the academic year 2025-2026, with the Bengaluru region demonstrating consistent academic performance. Encompassing all CBSE-affiliated schools across Karnataka, the Bengaluru region recorded a pass percentage of 98.9%, mirroring the achievement from the previous academic year. The results were officially declared on Wednesday, marking an early release compared to the traditional second week of May timeline.

Regional Rankings and National Performance

Despite maintaining its high pass rate, the Bengaluru region experienced a slight shift in the national rankings, dropping to the third position among all CBSE regions. The top spot was jointly retained by the Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada regions, both boasting an impressive pass percentage of 99.8%. Meanwhile, the Chennai region edged out Bengaluru to secure the second position with a pass rate of 99.6%.

On a national scale, the overall pass percentage for CBSE Class 10 examinations stood at 93.7%, reflecting a marginal increase of 0.04% from the previous year. The board highlighted that this steady performance confirms students are well-prepared for the competency-based assessment framework. Gender-wise analysis revealed that approximately 95% of female students passed, compared to 93% of male students.

Introduction of Dual Board Examinations

This academic year marks a significant change in the examination pattern, as CBSE has introduced two board examinations for Class 10 students. This innovative approach prompted the early announcement of results, with the next examination scheduled for May. Students were required to appear for at least three subjects during the initial examination, which served as the primary assessment.

The Bengaluru region witnessed 1,01,660 students appearing for the exams, out of which 1,00,554 successfully passed. A total of 1,087 students, accounting for 1.07% of examinees, have been placed in compartment exams for supplementary assessments.

Academic Excellence and Subject-Wise Performance

The region celebrated numerous exemplary performances, with approximately 9% of students—amounting to 2,21,574 examinees—achieving scores of 90% and above. Furthermore, 2.2% of students, or 55,368 individuals, secured more than 95% marks. In line with CBSE's progressive evaluation policy, the board will not issue any merit list or traditional divisions. Instead, merit certificates will be awarded to the top 0.1% of students who attained the highest marks across subjects.

However, mathematics emerged as a challenging subject for many students. Jayanti Nair, Principal of National Public School in Banashankari, noted, "Mathematics proved to be a tough and lengthy paper. We anticipated that some students might lose marks in this subject, but scoring in other subjects was exceptionally good."

Meetali Archit, Principal of Nagarjuna Vidyaniketan, echoed this sentiment, stating, "Performance in science and social sciences showed improvement compared to last year, but mathematics scoring was lower. Many students have expressed interest in appearing for the next examination to enhance their maths scores."

Subject-Specific Insights and State-Wide Comparisons

While mathematics posed difficulties, other subjects witnessed strong performances. Gear International School reported better overall scoring than the previous year. Veda MN, Principal of Hillrock NPS, pointed out that a few tricky multiple-choice questions in social science prevented some students from achieving perfect scores. Conversely, subjects like artificial intelligence and information technology saw high scores for the majority of students.

English language performance was robust for a large majority, though some schools observed a slight dip in language subjects. Lavanya G, Principal of Mount Litera Zee School, mentioned that eight out of 38 students have applied for the next examination, adding, "Students approached the exam with slightly less pressure, knowing they had another opportunity. Every change brings its own set of advantages and challenges."

State-Level Pass Percentages

Among Indian states, Kerala led the chart with an outstanding pass percentage of 99.9%, followed closely by Tamil Nadu at 99.8%. Karnataka secured the third position with 98.9%, while Maharashtra and Punjab recorded pass rates of 98.4% and 98.1% respectively.

The CBSE Class 10 results for 2026 underscore the academic resilience of students in the Bengaluru region, even as they navigate new examination patterns and subject-specific challenges. The introduction of dual board examinations aims to provide students with multiple opportunities to showcase their capabilities, reflecting the board's commitment to holistic and flexible assessment methodologies.
