CBSE Class X 2026: Girls Excel Over Boys in Prayagraj Region
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X 2026 examination results for the Prayagraj region have been declared, revealing a notable gender performance gap and moderate overall outcomes. Girls achieved a pass percentage of 91.21%, significantly surpassing boys at 88.2%. This trend aligns with broader national patterns where female students often demonstrate higher academic success rates in board exams.
Overall Performance and National Ranking
The Prayagraj region recorded an overall pass percentage of 89.45%, placing it 17th among the 22 regions across India. This marks a decline from the 2025 performance, where the region held the 15th position with a pass percentage of 91.01%. The national average for CBSE Class X 2026 stands at 93.70%, indicating a slight increase of 0.04% from the previous year's 93.66%. Trivandrum Regional Office maintained its top position for the third consecutive year with an exceptional pass rate of 99.79%, followed by Vijayawada, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Delhi West.
Institutional Variations in Academic Outcomes
Institution-wise data highlights stark disparities in performance across different types of schools in the Prayagraj region:
- Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs): Achieved the highest pass percentage at 99.81%, with 1,592 out of 1,599 students passing, showcasing exemplary academic standards.
- Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs): Followed closely with a pass percentage of 98.98%, reflecting strong outcomes in centrally managed institutions.
- Independent Schools: Representing the largest share of candidates with 1,47,326 students appearing, recorded a pass percentage of 89.31%, with 1,31,573 students successful.
- Government Schools: Continued to lag significantly, registering a pass percentage of only 61.52% out of 3,116 registered candidates. This underscores persistent gaps in academic support, infrastructure, and resource allocation, pointing to a wide institutional divide in learning outcomes.
Examination Scale and Regional Comparisons
The CBSE Class X 2026 exams in the Prayagraj region were conducted from February 17 to March 11, 2026, with increased participation this year. A total of 3,17,340 candidates were registered from 1,226 schools and 320 examination centres. Of these, 3,14,553 students appeared, and 2,81,298 were declared successful. In terms of regional comparisons, Prayagraj's performance was close to Patna at 89.33% and slightly below Lucknow at 91.63%, while aligning with the Uttar Pradesh state average of 89.35%.
High Compartment Cases and Special Needs Achievements
A concerning aspect of the results is the high number of compartment cases. A total of 15,805 students, accounting for 10.15% of those who appeared, have been placed in the compartment category. This figure is significantly higher than the national average of 5.95%, indicating that a considerable number of students will need to reappear in one or more subjects to clear the exam.
On a positive note, data showed encouraging outcomes for Children With Special Needs (CWSN), with select groups achieving 100% pass rates. This highlights inclusive educational efforts and tailored support systems that are yielding successful results for diverse learner populations.
Gender Performance and Broader Implications
Girls outperformed boys by over 3 percentage points in the Prayagraj region. Out of the total candidates, 63,993 girls appeared and demonstrated better success rates compared to 91,734 boys. This performance gap reinforces ongoing discussions about gender dynamics in education and the factors contributing to female academic excellence.
The results underscore the need for targeted interventions to address the institutional disparities, particularly in government schools, and to reduce the high compartment rates. As the region aims to improve its national ranking, stakeholders must focus on enhancing teaching methodologies, infrastructure, and student support mechanisms to foster better learning outcomes in future examinations.
