Chennai Public Libraries to Host Free Summer Camps with Diverse Activities
Public libraries across Chennai are set to organize free month-long summer camps for students, offering a wide array of engaging activities including art workshops, interactive games, storytelling contests, puzzles, and language lessons. These camps are part of the annual 'Kodai Kondattam' festivities organized by the directorate of public libraries in collaboration with readers' circles.
Comprehensive Camp Schedule and Arrangements
Staff at full-time libraries have been instructed to make all necessary arrangements for the camps. According to M Kavitha, the district library officer, students who win contests during the camps will be felicitated at the conclusion of the events. A detailed schedule is expected to be released after the elections, with the primary goal of keeping students engaged and providing them with a digital detoxification experience.
Expanded Programme Offerings for Enhanced Learning
The camps will feature a diverse range of events such as magic shows, storytelling sessions, folk arts, craft workshops, science demonstrations, drama, puppetry, dance, puzzles, and interactive games. In addition to these regular programmes, Kamatchi, the chief librarian at Anna Centenary Library, announced that special courses on French, chess, and robotics will be offered for students up to the age of 14 between May 1 and 31.
Key Highlights of the Summer Camps:
- Art and Creativity: Workshops on art, craft, folk arts, and drama to foster creative expression.
- Educational Activities: Science demonstrations, puzzles, and interactive games to stimulate learning.
- Language and Skills: French language lessons and chess courses to develop linguistic and strategic thinking abilities.
