Delhi Nursery Admissions 2026-27: Proximity Remains Key in 100-Point System
Delhi Nursery Admissions 2026-27 Criteria Finalized

Private schools across Delhi have officially established their admission guidelines for nursery classes for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year, with the majority maintaining their emphasis on geographical proximity within the established 100-point admission framework.

Admission Timeline and Compliance Status

While several institutions published their specific criteria on Friday, numerous schools have yet to make this critical information publicly available. The Directorate of Education had mandated that all private unaided schools upload their admission criteria to both their individual websites and the official DoE portal by November 28. However, in a concerning development, the government portal's upload feature remained non-functional as of Friday evening.

The admission process timeline is now firmly established: application forms will become accessible starting December 4 for approximately 1,740 private schools operating in the capital. Parents will have until December 27 to submit completed applications, with schools providing both online and offline submission options, though some institutions will require physical form submission. The initial selection list will be published on January 23, 2026.

School-Specific Admission Criteria Breakdown

Consistent with previous admission cycles, residential distance from school continues to carry the most significant weightage in the selection process—a crucial factor for institutions that typically receive numerous applications for each available seat.

At DPS Vasant Kunj, the points distribution allocates up to 40 points for children living within 0–15 kilometers of the school campus. Additional points are awarded as follows: 30 points for siblings currently enrolled at the school, 25 points for children of alumni, and 5 points for wards of single parents.

Shri Ram School in Vasant Vihar has designated an even higher weightage for proximity, reserving up to 50 points for applicants residing within 0–15 km radius. Students with siblings already attending the school and children of alumni will each receive 40 points, while wards of staff members and first-born children will be granted 10 points each.

Tagore International School, East of Kailash, has allocated 50 points for distance considerations and 30 points each for sibling and alumni applicants. Meanwhile, Indraprastha International School has earmarked 55 points for children living within a 12-kilometer radius, with alumni, staff, and sibling categories each carrying 15 points.

Regulatory Framework and Consequences

Schools discovered violating the established admission guidelines will face formal warnings issued by the deputy director of education. The management quota remains strictly limited, with only 20% of total seats permitted to be filled through this channel.

The continued emphasis on proximity in Delhi's nursery admissions reflects the ongoing challenge of managing overwhelming application numbers while attempting to maintain reasonable commuting distances for young students. Parents are advised to carefully review individual school criteria and prepare their applications accordingly within the specified timeline.
