Kanpur Police Bust Major Fake Degree Racket, 67 Forged Marksheets from Shri Krishna University Exposed
In a significant crackdown on educational fraud, the Kanpur police have uncovered a widespread fake degree racket involving Shri Krishna University in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. An investigation has revealed that out of 103 marksheets scrutinized from the university, a staggering 67 were found to be forged, highlighting a deep-seated issue in the certification process.
Police Raid Uncovers Over 1,000 Fake Documents
On February 18, the Kidwai Nagar police conducted a raid at the office of the Shail Group of Education, located near the Juhi Gaushala intersection in Kanpur. During the operation, authorities recovered more than 1,000 marksheets and degrees from 14 universities, including the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad in Prayagraj. The seized documents spanned various courses such as BTech, MTech, BPharma, DPharma, and LLB, indicating the extensive scope of the fraudulent activities.
Four individuals were arrested on the spot, and further investigation has identified the mastermind as Shailendra Kumar Ojha. He has been taken into custody along with accomplices Nagesh Mani Tripathi, Jogendra, Ashwani Kumar Singh, and Vineet, all of whom have been sent to jail. The police are now actively contacting the affected universities to verify the authenticity of the recovered degrees and marksheets.
Detailed Breakdown of Forged Documents
The Kidwai Nagar police recovered a total of 103 documents from the accused, which included a variety of academic records. Among these were five MSW marksheets, one BA BEd, 20 BSc, 14 BA, six BA LLB (Honours), two BCA, five BCom, nine MSc, 11 MA, 10 LLB, one PGDCA, three LLM, along with six polytechnic diplomas and 10 MBA gradesheets. Out of this collection, 67 have been confirmed as fake, underscoring the severity of the fraud.
Yogesh Kumar, the SIT in charge, stated that preparations are underway to take the accused on remand for further interrogation. The role of clerks at Shri Krishna University is also under investigation, as authorities probe potential insider involvement in facilitating the forgery.
Long-Running Operation Since 2012
The investigation has revealed that the gang has been operating since 2012, systematically preparing fake degrees, migration certificates, and marksheets. This long duration suggests a well-organized network that exploited vulnerabilities in the educational system to produce counterfeit credentials for unsuspecting individuals.
This case highlights critical issues in the verification processes of academic institutions and calls for stricter measures to prevent such frauds in the future. The police continue to work diligently to uncover all aspects of this racket and ensure justice is served.
