Faridabad Teachers Face Disciplinary Action Over School Reels
Two government school teachers in Faridabad have been officially summoned by the education department following allegations that they were creating and posting social media reels during a Class 12 farewell party held within school hours. This incident has triggered a significant district-wide response, with authorities issuing a strict notice prohibiting all such activities on school campuses.
Complaint and Immediate Investigation
The matter surfaced after an anonymous complaint, complete with screenshots as evidence, was submitted to the additional chief secretary of the education department. The Panchkula-based directorate took swift action, instructing local officials to launch a thorough inquiry and prepare a detailed report on the allegations.
Sources have identified one teacher each from the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, NIT-1, and the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sarai, as being named in the complaint. The preliminary investigation has confirmed that the reels were indeed filmed during regular school hours, prompting authorities to demand written explanations from both the teachers involved and their respective school principals.
Teachers' Appearances and Allegations
The summoned teachers presented themselves before departmental officials on both Wednesday and Friday. However, their official responses and statements have not been disclosed to the public at this time.
The complaint raised several serious concerns, alleging that students were frequently involved in the videos and were actively encouraged to participate, which disrupted their academic studies and had a negative impact on their overall development. It specifically mentioned that some videos featured students dancing to what were described as "vulgar songs," thereby lowering the dignity and reputation of the educational institution.
Furthermore, the complaint emphasized that posting such content, especially with students visible in their school uniforms, constitutes a clear violation of government service conduct rules and harms the school's public image. Additional allegations suggested that school premises were being misused for personal social media promotion, potentially encouraging inappropriate online engagement among the student body.
District-Wide Ban and Official Clarifications
In response to this incident, the education department issued a comprehensive district-wide order on Wednesday evening. This directive mandates the heads of all 378 government primary, middle, high, and senior secondary schools to enforce a blanket ban on the creation of reels and short videos within school premises. The order also restricts the unnecessary use of mobile phones by teachers during instructional class hours.
Officials have clarified that exceptions to this ban will be permitted only for content with educational, cultural, or awareness-related purposes, and such activities must receive prior approval from the department. Any authorized filming must be conducted under the direct supervision of a designated teacher. The order explicitly states that non-compliance with these instructions will result in disciplinary action.
District Elementary Education Officer Basant Kumar Dhillon confirmed that the matter is under active review. "At present, we can confirm that the teachers did create reels, and these were of an entertainment nature. The investigation is ongoing. Once the inquiry is fully completed, a detailed report will be forwarded to the directorate," he stated.
This case highlights growing concerns over the intersection of social media and educational environments, prompting stricter regulations to maintain academic integrity and professional conduct within schools.
