Margao: Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral recently concluded a 31-day campaign in Kerala, returning with a significant observation that he promptly shared with HSSC toppers during a felicitation event in Curchorem on Saturday. During his extensive campaign across the Manalur assembly constituency in Kerala, which went to polls earlier this week, Cabral attended approximately 80 to 85 corner meetings. He noted a concerning trend among many young people he encountered.
"They were simply unable to communicate in Hindi or English," Cabral revealed. "I'm not bringing them down. They may be smarter than us in many ways. But if the world is waiting for you, you need a language it understands."
This observation formed the basis of his message to the gathering of students who had achieved 75% and above in their Class 12 board examinations.
Emphasis on English Proficiency for Global Reach
Addressing the accomplished students, Cabral emphasized their advantageous position due to their English communication skills. "Today the world is waiting for you, because you have wonderful communication skills in English," he told the assembly.
While encouraging the learning of regional languages, he stressed the importance of English as a global connector:
- Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, and Kannada should all be learned
- English serves as the essential language for cross-border communication
- The world extends far beyond Goa and India's boundaries
"The world is not just Goa or India anymore. Take a career where the world is waiting for you," he advised, highlighting the expanded opportunities available to globally competent youth.

Cabral extended his advice beyond academic achievement, offering crucial guidance for the students' future paths. He cautioned them about the challenges they would face upon leaving school and parental supervision.

- Pressure to smoke or drink
- Other potentially harmful suggestions
"But you must decide — will it help my career? Will it make my parents proud?" he urged the students to consider, emphasizing personal responsibility and long-term thinking.
