Himachal CM Sukhu Directs Officers to Adopt 4,231 Schools, Demands List by Jan 5
Himachal CM Sukhu's Push for School Adoption Programme

In a significant push to uplift the quality of government education, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has issued a firm directive to senior district-level officers across the state. He has instructed them to actively and personally engage with the Apna Vidyalaya–Himachal School Adoption Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at bridging administrative gaps and enhancing academic standards.

Mentorship and Monthly Visits Mandated for Officers

Chairing a virtual meeting with all Deputy Commissioners, Chief Minister Sukhu laid out clear expectations. Under the programme, officers including Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates are required to adopt at least four government schools each. Their role is not merely ceremonial; they must serve as active mentors and patrons.

These senior officers are mandated to visit their adopted schools at least once every month. During these visits, the CM emphasised the need for regular interaction with students, providing career guidance, and helping with preparation for competitive examinations. Surprise inspections were also highlighted as a key tool to monitor and improve both academic standards and the overall functioning of the schools.

Over 4,200 Schools Already Adopted, Complete List Due

The initiative has already seen substantial traction. So far, a total of 4,231 schools across primary, middle, high, and senior secondary levels have been adopted under the scheme. Chief Minister Sukhu has now asked for an updated and comprehensive list of all adopted schools to be submitted to the government by January 5.

The adoption officers are tasked with working closely with teachers and School Management Committees (SMCs). A core objective is to ensure the effective utilisation of government funds and to act as a vital communication link between the local school administration and the state government.

Beyond Academics: Combating Drug Abuse and Speeding Projects

Moving beyond pure academics, CM Sukhu stressed the importance of addressing pressing social issues within the school environment. He particularly focused on the menace of drug abuse, instructing officers to spread awareness among students and promote national values and legal consciousness.

In a related and stern order, the Chief Minister also directed officers to submit detailed reports on illegal properties linked to drug traffickers. He called for strict action, including seizure and demolition of such properties wherever required.

During the same meeting, the CM instructed various departments to fast-track development works that are nearing completion. He also prioritised the expedited approval of forest land to speed up pending infrastructure and development projects across Himachal Pradesh.
