Hubballi SSLC Preparatory Exam Results Spark Concern, Education Department Takes Action

Performance in the SSLC preparatory examination-1 has remained alarmingly low in the Hubballi district this year, with 10,936 out of 26,270 students failing. This outcome has become a significant concern for the district school education and literacy department, which is actively striving to secure a top position in the state for the upcoming SSLC results.

Detailed Breakdown of Preliminary Exam Results

A total of 6,769 male students and 4,167 female students who appeared for the preliminary exam-1 failed, resulting in a pass rate of only 58.3%. The responsibility of ensuring these students succeed in the annual examination now rests heavily on the department. In the subsequent second examination, 19,013 students managed to pass, while the third preparatory exam is currently underway.

Expert Insights and Departmental Initiatives

Ashok Sajjan, a former government teacher, emphasized that the countdown has begun for the SSLC exam, which he described as one of the most critical stages in students' lives. "This time, the department has set a goal of seeing a substantial improvement in the results. For this, officials initiated Mission Vidyakashi, including various activities such as adopting schools, from the day the activity began. However, it did not yield complete results. It is positive that the department and headmasters are taking care of each student. But Dharwad district used to be in the top positions in the SSLC examination. We are expecting good results this time. Still, there is time to enhance students' performance," he stated.

Mission-40 Scheme and Targeted Interventions

According to SSLC nodal officials, following the first examination and a review of the preliminary exam-1 results, 19,013 students passed the preliminary exam-2. A total of 7,230 out of 26,270 students failed in this round, improving the preliminary exam-2 result to 72.4%. The Mission-40 scheme was implemented in the district, formulating a strategic plan to boost results. This initiative specifically monitors students who scored less than 25 marks and aims to ensure they achieve at least 40 marks in the final exams.

Departmental Review and Special Guidance

DDPI Shanamukhaswamy Keladimath informed that the department is meticulously reviewing the answer sheets of students who failed in the preliminary exams. They are identifying which subjects and questions posed challenges and providing special guidance accordingly. "When compared to the preliminary exam-1, the result rate in the preliminary exam-2 has increased. Now the third preparatory exam is under way. We hope that students will achieve good results," he added.

Focus on Weak Subjects and Teacher Support

Nafisa Banu Dawalasaab, education officer at the DDPI office in Dharwad, highlighted that many students struggled particularly in mathematics and science. A meeting was convened with head teachers to prioritize improving results in these areas. Six model question papers were specially prepared for students who failed the preparatory exam, and teachers from respective schools are actively guiding them through practice work to enhance their performance.
