Jaipur's Tree House High School Announces Sudden Closure Amid Financial Turmoil
The Tree House High School, a prominent CBSE-affiliated private institution located in Shyam Nagar, Jaipur, has shocked parents and students by announcing its immediate shutdown. The school, which offers education up to Class 10, cited severe financial difficulties as the primary reason for this unexpected decision.
Parents Protest Over Lack of Prior Notice
The announcement triggered immediate protests from parents on Wednesday and Thursday, who expressed outrage at receiving the news without any prior warning. With the academic session for 2026-27 already underway, parents found themselves scrambling to secure alternative admissions for their children at the last minute.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the school management expressed profound regret over the situation. "After exhaustive deliberation, the management is constrained to inform you of the voluntary closure of this school," the statement read. "The reasons for this deeply difficult decision are principally financial in nature."
Financial Strain and Declining Enrollment
The administration revealed that the school has been embroiled in an unresolved dispute concerning lease rental obligations. According to the school, these financial burdens "have grown to an extent that is no longer sustainable for the institution or the Trust." A public notice displayed outside the school premises by the building owner's lawyer indicated that the institution owed over Rs 4.21 crore in rent since January 2025.
Compounding the financial crisis, the school also reported a steady decline in student enrollment. Currently, more than 200 students are enrolled at the institution, all of whom now face uncertainty about their educational future.
School's Compensation and Assistance Measures
The school administration has committed to refunding all fees paid for the current academic session in full. This comprehensive refund includes tuition fees, development fees, annual charges, and any other payments made by parents and guardians. Additionally, the school has promised to issue transfer certificates and leaving certificates to every student without delay.
"We are fully committed to ensuring that not a single child suffers any disruption to their education," the school's statement emphasized. To facilitate this transition, the administration has compiled a detailed list of reputable CBSE-affiliated schools in and around Jaipur. School counselors and administrative staff have been made available to personally assist families in identifying suitable alternative institutions based on location, class level, and specific requirements.
Parental Concerns and Official Action
Despite these assurances, parents remain deeply concerned about the timing and lack of advance warning. Many families now face significant uncertainty as they seek immediate educational alternatives for their children.
Nishrin, whose son studies in Class 6 at the school, voiced the frustration shared by many parents: "The school is giving refund and other documents, but if the school was heading towards a financial problem, it should have informed parents on time so that we could find alternatives on time. Right now, getting our child admitted to any school will be difficult."
Parents have organized to meet with the district education officer on Friday to discuss the closure and seek assistance in securing admissions at other schools. Abhishek Jain, spokesperson for Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh, a collective of aggrieved parents in Jaipur, called for regulatory intervention. "Strict guidelines must be issued to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future," Jain stated. "Shutting down a school without prior notice is not fair to parents and children. Even though refund is being given, children will have to face the loss."
The sudden closure of Tree House High School highlights the challenges facing private educational institutions and underscores the need for transparent communication between schools and parents during times of institutional crisis.
