In a significant push for administrative efficiency and educational outcomes, the Karnataka School Education and Literacy Department has issued a directive to digitize all its offices across a major zone. The move aims to ensure faster and more transparent governance.
Digital Transformation for Speedy Administration
Ishwar Ullagaddi, the Additional Commissioner of the School Education and Literacy Department for the Kittur-Karnataka educational zone, has instructed all Block Education Officers (BEOs) and Deputy Directors of Public Instruction (DDPIs) to convert their workplaces into fully functional e-offices. This initiative is designed to streamline file disposal and enhance overall administrative efficiency through greater transparency.
The directive was issued during a review meeting chaired by Ullagaddi, which assessed the progress of works across nine educational districts under his jurisdiction. Senior officials from the department were present at this crucial meeting.
Ambitious Academic Targets Set for 2026
Beyond digital governance, the department has set a clear and ambitious academic goal. Officials have been given a target to ensure that every student from classes 3 to 10 in government schools across the 59 taluks of the Belagavi division achieves fundamental literacy and numeracy (FLN) by the end of January 2026.
Commissioner Ullagaddi issued strict instructions to BEOs and DDPIs, mandating them to ensure the active participation of headmasters and subject teachers from all government, aided, and unaided schools. Their involvement is considered critical for the successful implementation of the FLN program and for achieving 100% results in the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) examinations.
Focus on Midday Meal Quality and Hygiene
The review meeting also placed strong emphasis on the quality of the midday meal scheme. Ullagaddi directed everyone involved to ensure that the food served to students under the Akshara Dasoha scheme is both hygienic and palatable. He warned of strict disciplinary action against anyone found responsible for lapses in this vital program.
The high-level meeting saw the participation of key figures including Director Ishwar Naik, Joint Director Jayashree Karekar, and Deputy Director Girish Padaki. Furthermore, BEOs from 59 blocks, DDPIs, principals of District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET), and Akshara Dasoha project officers from the educational districts of Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Sirsi, and Chikodi were in attendance.
This comprehensive directive underscores the department's dual focus: modernizing its administrative backbone through technology while simultaneously driving on-ground academic excellence and student welfare through targeted programs and strict accountability.
