Rajput Karni Sena Organizes Massive Protest in Jaipur Against UGC Regulations
In a significant show of opposition, the Rajput Karni Sena convened a substantial Mahapanchayat at Ramniwas Bagh in Jaipur on Wednesday. The primary demand of the gathering was the immediate repeal of the recently notified University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations concerning equity in higher education institutions.
Leaders Issue Stern Warning and Announce Protest Plans
Addressing the assembled crowd, Karni Sena president Mahipal Singh Makrana delivered a firm ultimatum. He declared that if the government fails to withdraw the contentious UGC decision, the organization will escalate its agitation into a nationwide mass movement commencing on March 22. Makrana outlined specific protest strategies, including plans to gherao the residences of Members of Parliament and display black flags as potent symbols of dissent.
Understanding the Controversial UGC Regulations
The protest centers on the UGC's Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions Regulations, 2026. These regulations are designed to foster fairness, inclusivity, and equal treatment across universities and colleges. Their stated objectives include curbing discrimination on campuses and ensuring a safe, respectful environment for all students, faculty, and staff, irrespective of their backgrounds.
Widespread Participation and Parallel Protests
The Mahapanchayat witnessed participation from thousands of members, with significant community leaders such as Narayan Singh Deewrala and Sher Singh Kalvi in attendance. Protestors vociferously raised slogans against the UGC regulations, labeling them as detrimental to the interests of the upper-caste community. They unanimously resolved to intensify their agitation.
Simultaneously, another group, the Samta Andolan Samiti, staged a parallel demonstration at Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur, echoing identical demands. This group later merged with the main Mahapanchayat at Ramniwas Bagh, amplifying the collective voice of opposition.
Expressions of Dissent and Future Action Plans
Speakers at the event expressed profound dissatisfaction with the new law, asserting that it has generated widespread discontent among certain societal sections. Protestors pledged to participate in large numbers in upcoming programs to advance the movement. The gathering concluded with a symbolic show of unity, as participants collectively recited the Hanuman Chalisa and illuminated mobile flashlights.
Organizers' Firm Stance and Government Appeal
Organizers reiterated that the "Savarna Samaj" groups remain steadfast in their demands and will not retreat. They expressed hope for a favorable response from the government. Notably, thousands of individuals traveled from neighboring districts to Jaipur for the event, raising slogans throughout their journey and persistently calling for the repeal of the UGC regulations.
