Kochi School Community in Mourning After Former Student's Tragic Death in Kolkata

The teaching staff at Rajagiri Public School in Kochi is grappling with profound grief as they remember their former student, 19-year-old Juven Joss Jebin, who tragically died after falling from the sixth floor of a hostel building near Kolkata. The incident occurred just a day before teachers began sharing heartfelt memories of the young man described as an exceptional student with a bright future in law.

A Promising Life Cut Short

According to reports from Kolkata, Jebin was found lying on the ground with severe injuries by fellow residents at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) hostel in Salt Lake. He was immediately rushed to Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital, where medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival. The circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation by local authorities.

Teachers Remember a Gifted Student

Bini Varghese, a computer science teacher at Rajagiri Public School who shared a close bond with Jebin, expressed her shock and devastation upon learning the news. "There is nothing I could say was lacking in him. He was extremely bright," Varghese told TOI. "In my subject, he scored 100% marks in the board exams and was fully committed to studying law. He was determined to get into a national law college on his first attempt."

Varghese described Jebin as:

  • Someone with extensive knowledge of current affairs
  • A person with a consistently positive outlook on life

"He was someone who gave strength to others. A person like that would never take such a step," Varghese emphasized, reflecting the disbelief shared by many who knew him.

School Leadership Expresses Condolences

Rev Fr Paulose Kidangan, director of Rajagiri Public School, confirmed the deep sadness permeating the school community. "He was one of the best students of the school, the teaching community at the school is saddened by his passing," Kidangan stated, highlighting Jebin's academic excellence and leadership qualities.

Final Journey and Funeral Arrangements

A family acquaintance revealed that the postmortem examination was completed on Tuesday. The body is expected to be transported by air to Kochi by Wednesday morning, after which it will be taken to Jebin's family home in Palarivattom. Funeral services are scheduled to take place later on Wednesday, allowing friends, family, and former teachers to pay their final respects to the young man whose potential had impressed so many.

The tragic incident has cast a shadow over both the Kolkata university community where Jebin was pursuing his legal education and the Kochi school where he first demonstrated his remarkable talents. As investigations continue into the exact circumstances of the fall, those who knew Juven Joss Jebin are left remembering a student whose academic achievements, oratory skills, and determination to become a lawyer made him stand out among his peers.
