PM Modi Holds Unique Pariksha Pe Charcha on Brahmaputra Cruise with Assam Students
Modi's Pariksha Pe Charcha on Brahmaputra Cruise with Students

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a unique and personal dialogue with school students on Sunday, choosing the serene setting of the Brahmaputra river for a special edition of his flagship 'Pariksha Pe Charcha' initiative. The interaction, held aboard the cruise vessel MV Charaidew 2, marked a significant departure from the usual auditorium-based format and formed a key part of his two-day visit to Assam.

A Riverine Classroom for Exam Discussions

The Prime Minister spent approximately 45 minutes on the three-deck cruise, sailing from the recently inaugurated Guwahati Gateway Terminal. He was joined by 25 students selected from various schools across Assam, representing a diverse mix of academic backgrounds. The conversation centred on the perennial challenges of examination stress, effective preparation methods, and managing academic pressure.

Officials stated that the session provided a relaxed platform for students to openly share their experiences and concerns regarding exams and daily learning routines. PM Modi accessed the vessel via a floating bridge at the terminal, a modern Inland Water Transport (IWT) facility inaugurated by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, highlighting the government's push for enhanced riverine infrastructure.

Part of a Massive National Outreach

While the Assam interaction involved a select group, it is a component of a vastly larger national programme. The 2026 edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha has witnessed unprecedented participation, with official data indicating registrations crossing one crore on the MyGov portal.

The initiative has evolved into a multi-format engagement, combining widespread digital participation through online activities and quizzes for students, parents, and teachers across India. Only a handful of participants from this massive pool are shortlisted for the coveted in-person interaction with the Prime Minister, like the one held on the Brahmaputra.

Security and Broader Visit Context

In light of the VVIP visit, elaborate security arrangements were put in place along the Brahmaputra. Ferry services were suspended for two days starting Saturday. Personnel from the River Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) patrolled the river from early morning to ensure safety.

This educational outreach was a focal point of PM Modi's Assam schedule, underscoring the continued emphasis on student welfare and mitigating exam-related anxiety. The choice of an unconventional river cruise setting aimed to create a more informal and memorable experience for the young participants.
