69th National School Games Kick Off in Ludhiana with 1200+ Athletes
National School Games Begin in Ludhiana

The hunt for India's next generation of sporting champions is officially underway in the industrial hub of Ludhiana. The city transforms into a national sporting arena this Monday, January 6, as it hosts the prestigious 69th National School Games. A vibrant contingent of more than 1,200 young athletes representing 38 states and Union Territories has gathered, ready to showcase their talent and determination.

A Grand Stage for Youth Sports

The Guru Nanak Stadium is buzzing with anticipation, set to become the epicenter of youthful energy and competitive spirit. The games, organized by the Directorate of School Education under the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), will run until January 11. The inauguration ceremony will be graced by Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, who will declare the tournament open at the stadium.

This year's competition focuses on three core disciplines, designed to highlight both traditional and modern sports. The events include Gatka for under-19 boys and girls, promoting the indigenous martial art, alongside Judo for under-14 boys and girls and Taekwondo for under-14 girls.

Meticulous Planning for a Smooth Event

Hosting such a large-scale event requires impeccable logistics. The Punjab education department has made extensive arrangements to ensure comfort and convenience for all participants. 34 government schools in the city have been temporarily converted into residential hubs to accommodate the athletes and officials.

To manage the culinary needs of the gathering, a dedicated central mess has been established at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), which commenced operations on the evening of January 4. Furthermore, the department is providing complete transportation facilities for all students and supporting staff throughout the five-day sporting spectacle.

Venues and Recognition

The action will not be confined to a single location. Matches and events will be spread across three primary venues in Ludhiana to efficiently manage the schedule:

  • BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School in Shastri Nagar
  • Govt Senior Secondary School located on the PAU campus
  • The Open Air Theatre at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU)

The closing ceremonies will be a moment of pride and celebration, where winners across all categories will be formally honored with official medals and certificates. The 69th National School Games stand as a critical platform, not just for competition, but for identifying and nurturing the sporting icons who will carry India's flag on future global stages.
