Tragic Death of NEET Aspirant in Bhagalpur Hostel Sparks Police Investigation
In a deeply distressing incident, an 18-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was discovered deceased in her private hostel room in Bhagalpur district. The young woman, identified as Srishti Kumari, was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Sunday night, just hours after she had relocated to the new accommodation with her family.
Details of the Incident and Immediate Response
The tragedy unfolded at a hostel situated in the Khanjarpur locality, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Barari police station. Srishti, a resident of Araria district and the daughter of Manish Kumar Singh, had recently completed her Class XII examinations and was diligently studying for the medical entrance exam. She moved into the hostel around 4 pm on Sunday, accompanied by her parents and close relatives.
Later that evening, fellow female inmates attempted to visit her room but found the door locked from the inside. After repeated attempts to contact her went unanswered, the hostel owner, manager, and Srishti's cousin, who resides in Bhagalpur, were alerted. The door was forcibly opened, revealing the heartbreaking scene of Srishti hanging from a bed-sheet attached to the ceiling fan.
Authorities were promptly notified, and she was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH). Unfortunately, doctors declared her brought dead upon arrival, confirming the loss of a promising young life.
Police Investigation and Harassment Allegations
Barari police station SHO Bittu Kumar Kamal provided insights into the ongoing investigation. An FIR was lodged by Srishti's father on Monday, following the recovery of the body. In his complaint, the father alleged that a youth had been harassing his daughter with obscene remarks and held him responsible for her untimely death.
Police have formed a dedicated team, including forensic science laboratory (FSL) experts, to delve into the case from all possible angles. Key aspects under scrutiny include the harassment claims, potential love affair connections, and digital evidence retrieved from Srishti's cellphone.
"We have seized the victim's cellphone to retrieve more details. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report. Investigation is underway from all possible angles, including love affair angle if any," stated SHO Kamal.
Examination of Digital Evidence and CCTV Footage
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that Srishti exchanged WhatsApp messages, including audio and video clips, with an individual prior to the incident. These digital communications are currently being examined by investigators to uncover any clues or motives behind the tragedy.
Additionally, CCTV footage tracing Srishti's movements up to the hostel has been recovered. The footage reportedly shows her appearing visibly uncomfortable, adding a layer of concern to the investigation. Police are meticulously analyzing this visual evidence to piece together the events leading up to her death.
The investigation remains active, with authorities committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice for Srishti and her grieving family. The community mourns the loss of a young aspirant whose dreams were cut short under tragic circumstances.
