Northeast Frontier Railway Modernizes Guwahati School with Comprehensive Upgrades

In a significant move to enhance educational standards, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken a major infrastructure overhaul at the Railway Higher Secondary School in Maligaon, Guwahati. This initiative aims to create a more conducive learning environment and bolster national-level competitiveness through the adoption of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum.

Complete Furniture Replacement Across All Classrooms

Under this ambitious project, the school has seen a full replacement of outdated furniture in all 19 classrooms, spanning from Class I to Class XII. Old desks, benches, tables, and chairs have been swapped out for new, modern pieces designed to improve student comfort and engagement. Additionally, the Teachers’ Common Room has been equipped with new tables and chairs, while the library and staff areas have received upgraded furnishings, including cabinets and a sofa set.

KK Sharma, the chief public relations officer (CPRO) of NFR, emphasized, "These upgrades are meticulously planned to foster a more comfortable and productive atmosphere for both students and staff, aligning with our commitment to quality education."

Digital Learning Boost with Smart Board Installations

To integrate technology into the learning process, the school has procured and installed six smart boards in higher classes, with ongoing installations planned for the remaining classrooms. This step is part of a broader effort to enhance digital literacy and interactive teaching methods, preparing students for a tech-driven future.

Recently, the general manager of NFR, accompanied by senior officials from the zone, conducted an inspection visit to assess the newly installed furniture and smart boards. Railway officials reported that the team expressed satisfaction with the improvements, highlighting the positive impact on the school's infrastructure.

Inclusive Education for Railway and Non-Railway Students

Although managed by the railways, the school serves a diverse student body, including both railway and non-railway families. It offers quality education at a nominal cost, with provisions for students from Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories. Currently, enrollment statistics show that approximately 7% of students come from railway families, while 93% are non-railway students, underscoring the institution's role in providing accessible education to the broader community.

This upgrade initiative reflects NFR's dedication to improving educational facilities and supporting academic excellence in the region.
