NSUI Announces Protest Against Proposed RSS-Linked Event at Rajasthan University

In a significant development on Thursday, functionaries of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) held a press conference in Jaipur to declare their intention to protest a proposed event scheduled for Friday at Rajasthan University. The event, titled 'Key Public Gathering (Matrushakti)', has sparked controversy due to its alleged association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Controversy Over Event Invitation and Affiliation

The NSUI stated that an invitation for the event, set to take place at the university's humanities auditorium on Friday, has been circulating on social media platforms. The invite explicitly mentions the RSS's centenary year, declaring, "In this centenary year, the Sangh has resolved—by rallying the virtuous forces within society—to build an organised, capable and prosperous India that serves as an ideal for the world. To realise this resolve, a 'Key Public Gathering' is being organised to engage in dialogue with the distinguished and influential women leaders (Matrushakti) of society."

However, Dr. Sunita, a research fellow at Rajasthan University who is listed as a contact person on the invitation, provided a contrasting narrative. She clarified, "This event is designed to bring together strong decision-making women from society to discuss the various issues faced by women. We have not published any formal invitation, and we have personally met with the women who will be participating on Friday. This is not an RSS event; it is being organized by the Marudhar Nari Sashaktikaran Sangathan."

Dr. Sunita further emphasized that the organization has obtained proper permission from the university administration to utilize the campus space for the gathering.

NSUI's Stance and Counterarguments

NSUI functionary Amardeep Parihar raised concerns about the university's policies, noting, "The university typically does not permit events such as marathons to take place on campus, yet an event of this nature has been allowed. This raises questions about consistency and transparency in the administration's decisions."

In response, Bharat Bhushan, the national coordinator of the university wing of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), defended the event. He stated, "The program scheduled for tomorrow is fundamentally a women-centric event focused on empowerment and dialogue. Will the NSUI now oppose a program that is dedicated to addressing women's issues and fostering their leadership?"

The situation highlights ongoing tensions between student political groups on university campuses, particularly regarding events with perceived political affiliations. The NSUI's planned protest underscores their vigilance against what they view as RSS influence in academic spaces, while organizers insist the event is a non-political initiative for women's empowerment.

As the controversy unfolds, all eyes are on Rajasthan University to see how the administration manages the scheduled event and the accompanying protests, balancing freedom of expression with campus regulations and political sensitivities.
