Odisha CM Majhi Unveils Rs 3,200 Crore Education Boost

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled a significant financial commitment to revitalize primary education in the state, announcing a substantial budgetary allocation during a public address in Berhampur.

Major Financial Boost and New Initiatives

Speaking at the annual function of Saraswati Sishu Vidyamandir in Nilakantha Nagar on Wednesday, CM Majhi declared that his government has earmarked a massive Rs 3,200 crore for the primary education sector. This funding is part of a broader strategy to strengthen foundational learning. The key projects under this push include the establishment of Shishu Vatikas and pre-primary classes as mandated by the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP). A flagship initiative, the Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School scheme, has also been launched.

The Chief Minister asserted that these comprehensive measures are designed to enhance the quality of education at the primary level. He directly linked this educational overhaul to the state's long-term vision, stating that these schemes will play a pivotal role in achieving "Viksit Odisha by 2036."

Implementing NEP and Redefining Goals

In his speech, CM Majhi took a clear stance on the implementation of the National Education Policy. He criticized the previous state government for not executing the NEP, which was formulated to impart quality education and strengthen primary learning foundations. "After we formed the government, we implemented the policy," he stated. He elaborated that the policy's aim extends beyond academics; it is also focused on building students into responsible and good citizens.

Striking a note on parental pressure and career choices, the CM advised parents against forcing their children to pursue only traditional paths like engineering or medicine. He emphasized giving children the opportunity to choose any field of interest. To illustrate his point, he cited several examples of personalities who have excelled in diverse fields, including sports. He also urged students to "give due respect to their motherland, language, and culture."

Recognition for Academic Excellence

The event also served as a platform to celebrate academic achievement. Chief Minister Majhi praised the teachers and management of Saraswati Sishu Vidyamandir for their exceptional results. The school has maintained a 100% pass rate in the HSC (matric) examination for an impressive 23 consecutive years. Furthermore, in the Plus II examinations, the institution has achieved a 100% pass percentage in the science stream for 17 years and in the commerce stream for 14 years.

Adding a personal touch to the ceremony, several students presented the Chief Minister with portraits they had designed of him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
