Patna Students Gear Up for College Admissions as Board Exam Results Approach
With the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) set to release Class XII results next week, and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) concluding their exams shortly, talented students across Patna are intensifying their search for superior career pathways. In fact, a significant surge has already commenced for undergraduate admissions at several esteemed institutions in the city.
Premier Institutions Announce Admission Schedules
All top-tier colleges, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna, the Indian Institute of Hotel Management, and the Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), have publicly disclosed their admission timelines for the upcoming academic session starting in July.
Detailed Admission Processes for Key Colleges
IIT Patna, established in 2008, provides four-year BTech programs across various specializations. Prospective students must take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main), with final selections based on JEE (Advanced) scores and centralized counseling. According to IIT Patna senior faculty Kripa Shankar Singh, the JEE Main second session is scheduled for April.
NIT Patna, founded in 2004 by the Government of India, comprises six engineering departments and one architecture department, alongside separate units for physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Admissions to BTech and BArch courses rely on JEE Main and the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) results, respectively.
AIIMS Patna, inaugurated in 2012, admits students to its MBBS program through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET-UG). This national-level exam is planned for May, with results anticipated in mid-June.
CNLU, started in 2006, will enroll 138 students in its five-year BA LLB honours and BBA LLB honours courses based on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) outcomes, declared last December. CNLU registrar S P Singh emphasized that a plus two qualification is the minimum requirement for these programs.
NIFT Patna, operational since 2008, offers four-year BDes and BFTech degrees, plus a one-year certificate course in fashion and clothing technology. Admission involves a national-level entrance test, group discussion, and personal interview. With 170 seats in areas like fashion design and textile design, the first entrance round occurred in February, and final results are expected in May, as noted by NIFT senior faculty Vinayak Yashraj.
The Institute of Hotel Management, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism since 1998, awards three-year bachelor's degrees in hospitality and hotel administration. Affiliated with NCHMCT, it has 285 seats, with online applications due by March 25 for an entrance test likely next month.
This proactive approach by students highlights the competitive landscape of higher education in Patna, as they prepare to secure spots in these renowned institutions amidst the impending board results.
