In a tragic incident that has sparked outrage and protests, the principal and three staff members of a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Andhra Pradesh have been suspended following the death of a 13-year-old student. The student, identified as M Navya, was a class VII pupil at the KGBV school located in Atchutapuram, within the Anakapalle district. Navya, who hailed from Pudimadaka in the same district, fell ill during the early hours of Saturday, April 11. According to reports, the school staff promptly alerted her parents, Raju and Yellamma, and arranged for her to be transferred to NTR Hospital in Anakapalle. Despite these efforts, Navya tragically passed away at the hospital.
Suspensions and Allegations
In response to the incident, school authorities have taken decisive action by suspending Principal Uma Devi along with three other staff members, including an in-house Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM). The suspensions are part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Navya's death.
Initial suspicions from some students and Navya's parents pointed towards a possible snake bite or bee sting as the cause of death. However, medical professionals at the hospital have stated that no such bite marks were found on the girl's body during their examination. To determine the exact cause of death, a postmortem has been ordered following a formal complaint lodged by Navya's parents at the Atchutapuram police station.
