Rajasthan Schools Close Again as Cold Wave Intensifies, Temps Hit Sub-Zero
Rajasthan Cold Wave Forces Fresh School Closures

A severe cold wave sweeping across Rajasthan, with temperatures plummeting to sub-zero levels in several areas, has prompted district administrations to announce fresh rounds of school closures and revised timings. The move aims to protect students from the harsh winter conditions that have intensified over the state.

District-Wise Holiday Declarations

The district administration in Jaipur declared holidays for students up to Class 5 in both government and private schools on January 12 and 13. This marks the second extension of the winter break in the city. Similarly, schools in Dausa, Deeg, and Hanumangarh will remain closed on Monday for all students up to Class 8.

In Jalore, holidays have been announced for students up to Class 5 from January 12 to 14. The desert district of Jaisalmer has ordered closures for students up to Class 8 until January 14. For senior students in Classes 9 to 12 in Jaisalmer, school timings have been revised to 10 AM to 4 PM.

Extended Breaks and Revised Schedules

The administrations of Nagaur and Bharatpur have also declared holidays on January 12 and 13 for students up to Class 5. Sikar district has taken some of the most extensive measures. District Collector Mukul Sharma declared holidays from January 12 to 17, 2026 for all government and private schools running classes 1 to 5.

Sharma cited the advisory from the meteorological department and the prevailing cold wave conditions for the decision. For students of classes 6 to 12 in Sikar, new orders mandate that school operating hours be changed to 11 AM to 4 PM. Teachers and staff have been instructed to be present in schools as per regular departmental timings to perform their duties.

Official Orders Cite Weather Advisory

In Jhunjhunu, Collector Arun Garg extended holidays for classes I to VIII until January 13 due to the ongoing cold wave. The widespread administrative action underscores the severity of the weather situation, with officials prioritizing student safety.

The recurring extensions and timing adjustments highlight the prolonged nature of this year's cold spell in Rajasthan. Parents and students are advised to stay updated with local announcements as conditions are monitored daily.
