Rajasthan Education Department Initiates 'Sarthak Naam Abhiyan' for Students
In a significant move aimed at fostering positive identity development among children, Rajasthan's School Education Department has announced the launch of the "Sarthak Naam Abhiyan." This campaign will focus on suggesting appropriate and meaningful names for students enrolled in government schools across the state, particularly those whose current names are deemed likely to cause embarrassment or social discomfort later in life.
Preventing Identity-Related Embarrassment
Education Minister Madan Dilawar, while addressing the media on Wednesday, emphasized that the initiative is designed to shield children from developing feelings of inferiority or shame associated with their names as they mature. "Under this campaign, for students whose names do not have any meaning, like Kachumbar or Dhapa, and are kept by villagers in rural areas, discussions will be held with their parents to assign them meaningful names," Dilawar stated.
The department plans to compile an extensive list of 2,000 to 3,000 names, from which suggestions will be made to parents. Officials will engage with families, especially in rural regions, to recommend alternatives that carry significance and cultural relevance.
Broader Educational Initiatives Announced
This announcement coincides with Rajasthan's ongoing government school enrolment drive. Dilawar reiterated the commitment to inclusive education, stating that children from nomadic communities must be admitted even in the absence of proper documentation, ensuring no eligible child is denied access to schooling.
To celebrate and promote academic excellence, the minister revealed that students achieving high marks in the 2026 board exams will be honored at their respective schools. Their accomplishments will be prominently showcased through various media platforms, including banners and social media, as a strategy to motivate parents to enroll their children in government institutions.
Enhancing School Development and Governance
In another pioneering step, an annual alumni meet will be introduced at government schools statewide starting this year. Dilawar highlighted that alumni, who possess a deep emotional connection to their alma mater, will be actively involved in the holistic development of schools. This includes contributions to infrastructure upgrades and building construction projects.
Furthermore, all school principals have been directed to conduct daily inspections of classrooms to maintain educational standards. Additionally, the department will prepare a list of employees in government schools and the education department who consume intoxicants, tobacco products, or gutka, though specific actions following this identification were not detailed.
These comprehensive measures underscore Rajasthan's dedication to improving the educational landscape, from fostering positive student identities to strengthening school infrastructure and governance.
