Science Stream Analysis: Marginal Decline in Performance
In the Science stream, a total of 287,068 candidates registered for the Higher Secondary examination, with 285,299 students appearing. The overall pass percentage stood at 97.52%, showing a slight decrease from 98.43% in 2025. Girls outperformed boys, achieving a pass rate of 98.34% compared to 97.02% for boys. Notably, 146,644 boys and 98,636 girls secured first division marks.
Comparing year-on-year data, registrations increased from 273,915 in 2025 to 287,068 in 2026, while appearances rose from 272,138 to 285,299. First division qualifiers saw a rise from 145,102 boys and 96,216 girls in 2025 to 146,644 boys and 98,636 girls in 2026. However, pass percentages for both genders declined marginally, with boys dropping from 98.07% to 97.02% and girls from 99.02% to 98.34%.
Commerce Stream Insights: Significant Drop in Success Rates
The Commerce stream witnessed 30,798 registrations and 30,580 appearances, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 93.64%. Boys recorded a pass rate of 94.04%, while girls achieved 92.82%. A total of 13,976 boys and 8,096 girls earned first division honors.
Yearly comparisons indicate growth in participation, with registrations up from 28,248 in 2025 to 30,798 in 2026, and appearances increasing from 28,010 to 30,580. First division numbers showed a mixed trend, with boys rising from 13,689 to 13,976 and girls decreasing from 8,312 to 8,096. Pass percentages experienced a notable decline, falling from 99.07% overall in 2025 to 93.64% in 2026, with boys dropping from 98.97% to 94.04% and girls from 99.27% to 92.82%.
Arts Stream Performance: Consistent Excellence with Minor Fluctuations
For the Arts stream, 591,023 candidates registered and 583,201 appeared, achieving a pass percentage of 97.54%. Girls continued to excel with a 98.29% pass rate, compared to 96.68% for boys. Impressively, 156,818 boys and 227,252 girls passed with first division.
Registrations slightly increased from 587,444 in 2025 to 591,023 in 2026, while appearances rose from 578,164 to 583,201. First division results saw a shift, with boys decreasing from 164,009 to 156,818 and girls increasing from 223,045 to 227,252. Pass percentages dipped marginally, with boys falling from 97.09% to 96.68% and girls from 98.42% to 98.29%, and the overall rate declining from 97.78% to 97.54%.
