The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the notification for the Stenographer Grade C and D Examination 2026. The online application process will commence on April 24, 2026, and continue until May 15, 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill approximately 731 vacancies across various ministries, departments, organisations, and their attached and subordinate offices of the Government of India.

Important Dates for SSC Stenographer 2026

Candidates can submit their applications through the official SSC website or mobile application. The last date for submission is May 15, 2026, at 23:00 hours. The fee payment deadline is May 16, 2026, at 23:00 hours. A correction window will be available from May 20 to May 21, 2026. The computer-based examination is scheduled to be conducted between July and August 2026.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted only via the official SSC portal or mobile app. Candidates must complete a one-time registration on the new portal, as previous registrations on the old platform will not be valid. The Commission encourages applicants to opt for Aadhaar-based authentication to simplify the verification process during the examination.

Vacancies and Eligibility Criteria

The Commission has indicated approximately 731 vacancies, with detailed post-wise and category-wise figures to be published later. The recruitment is open to candidates with stenography skills who have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board or university by August 1, 2026. For Grade C posts, candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age, while for Grade D posts, the age limit is 18 to 27 years, calculated as on August 1, 2026. Age relaxation provisions apply for reserved categories, including SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, and ex-servicemen, in accordance with government rules.

Examination Pattern and Verification

The examination will be conducted in computer-based mode as an open competitive test for direct recruitment to Group B and Group C posts. Only candidates possessing stenography proficiency will be eligible to appear. Document verification will be carried out by the respective user departments after the declaration of final results. Candidates must produce original certificates, including mark sheets and proof of educational qualifications; failure to do so will result in cancellation of candidature.
