Class VIII Student Injured in Washroom Blast at Bettiah Private School
A Class VIII student sustained injuries in a powerful explosion that occurred inside the washroom of a private school in Bettiah town, located in West Champaran district, on Saturday morning, according to police reports.
Student Hospitalized with Minor Hearing Issues
The injured student was immediately transported to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Bettiah, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Doctors attending to the student have confirmed that while his condition remains stable, the impact of the explosion has resulted in minor hearing issues.
Firecracker-Like Substance Caused Explosion
Police investigation has determined that the explosion was triggered by a substance resembling firecrackers. Bettiah Sadar SDPO Vivek Deep stated that preliminary findings indicate a minor student had combined three high-magnitude firecrackers and strategically placed them inside the school washroom.
"When he lit the device, it led to a loud explosion, and he himself got injured in the incident," the officer explained during the investigation briefing.
Investigation Launched Following Emergency Call
The incident came to police attention after the victim's family contacted emergency services by dialing 112. In response, SDPO Vivek Deep, accompanied by a team from the Muffasil police station and forensic experts, promptly arrived at the scene to initiate a comprehensive investigation.
Initial forensic analysis suggests that the material used in the blast was significantly larger and more powerful than standard firecrackers typically available in the market.
Ongoing Probe into Procurement and School Security
Police authorities have confirmed that an active investigation is underway to address several critical questions:
- How the student managed to procure such explosive material
- Whether there were any security lapses on the part of the school administration
- The complete circumstances surrounding the incident
The incident has raised serious concerns about school safety protocols and the accessibility of hazardous materials to minors in educational institutions.
