Uttar Pradesh Empowers Schools with Timetable Autonomy Under Fresh Guidelines
The Basic Education Department of Uttar Pradesh has introduced significant new guidelines that grant state-run schools the autonomy to formulate their own timetables. This strategic move is designed to address practical challenges related to teacher availability while ensuring the complete coverage of the prescribed curriculum within the designated academic timeframe.
Structured Academic Framework and Subject Allocation
According to the official directives issued by the department, primary schools across the state are now mandated to allocate one dedicated period each day exclusively for language and mathematics instruction. For upper primary and composite schools, the guidelines specify that one period must be reserved daily for three core subjects: mathematics, English, and science.
Director General of School Education (DGSE) Monika Rani has formally instructed all school heads to develop comprehensive, class-wise and subject-wise timetables that systematically organize all teaching and learning activities throughout the academic year.
Integration of Digital Learning Resources
In a progressive step to enhance educational quality, schools have been directed to allocate one 40-minute period per week specifically for students in classes 6 through 8. This period is dedicated to utilizing the digital educational resources provided by the renowned platform 'Khan Academy,' aiming to supplement traditional teaching methods with interactive digital content.
Revised Teaching Methodology and Daily Structure
The new guidelines outline a refined structure for each instructional period. Teachers are required to begin by conducting a revision of the lessons taught on previous days, ensuring foundational knowledge retention. Following this revision phase, classroom instruction and interactive activities will be conducted based on the day's syllabus. The period will conclude with a consolidation session where key lesson points are summarized and reinforced.
Additionally, the timetable must incorporate a dedicated 30-minute slot for the distribution of the PM Poshan scheme, formerly known as the mid-day meal program, ensuring nutritional support is seamlessly integrated into the school day.
Accountability and Curriculum Management
DGSE Monika Rani has emphasized that schools must complete their class-wise and subject-wise curriculum on a monthly basis, maintaining consistent academic progress. The responsibility for ensuring strict adherence to the formulated timetable and the timely completion of the syllabus rests squarely with the head teacher of each institution, introducing a clear layer of accountability within the school administration.
This comprehensive policy shift represents a significant step toward decentralizing educational management in Uttar Pradesh, empowering school leadership to create schedules that best suit their local contexts while upholding statewide academic standards and objectives.
