UP Schools to Get Timely NCERT Books as Board Authorizes Publishers

Students enrolled in classes IX to XII across schools recognized by the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) will no longer face the annual scramble for textbooks at the start of the academic year. In a significant move to streamline educational resources, UPSEB has authorized three publishers to sell NCERT books, ensuring widespread availability and affordability.

Ending Textbook Shortages with Early Planning

Historically, since UPSEB adopted NCERT books for classes IX to XII in the 2018-19 academic session, shortages have plagued students not only at the beginning of sessions but also months afterward. This year, however, proactive measures have been taken to address this issue. The tender process commenced early, followed by timely printing of the books, as highlighted by Abhinav Agarwal from Singhal Printers, one of the authorized publishers.

Authorized Publishers and Book Availability

UPSEB has officially authorized three publishers to distribute textbooks: Pitambara Books Pvt Ltd based in Jhansi, Pioneer Printers from Agra, and Singhal Agencies located in Lucknow. According to Ruchir Bansal of Pioneer Printers, all 70 NCERT books covering 36 subjects are now available across Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, 12 more books in Hindi, Sanskrit, and Urdu subjects, specifically prepared by UPSEB for classes X to XII, have been made available before the session's commencement.

Affordable Pricing for Students

The publishers emphasize that the books are not only accessible but also reasonably priced, aiming to curb the exploitation by private sellers that occurred during past shortages. The pricing structure is as follows:

  • Class X: A set of 10 books is priced at Rs 393.
  • Class X (alternative set): Another set for class X costs Rs 440.
  • Class XI: A set of 7 books is available for Rs 458.
  • Class XII: Students can purchase a set of 8 books for Rs 412.

Surendra Singh from Pitambara Books noted, "Shortage of books in the past led to private publishers selling books at exorbitant prices. These NCERT books are not only affordable but are of high quality." This initiative is expected to alleviate financial burdens on families and ensure that all students have equal access to essential learning materials.

Impact on Education in Uttar Pradesh

By securing a steady supply of textbooks through authorized channels, UPSEB aims to enhance the educational experience for thousands of students. The move is part of broader efforts to improve academic standards and reduce disruptions caused by resource shortages. With books now readily available, students can focus on their studies without the added stress of procurement delays, fostering a more conducive learning environment across the state.
