Azim Premji University in Ranchi to Commence Academic Services from July 2026

Officials announced on Friday that the Azim Premji Foundation's new university in Ranchi will start offering academic services in a phased manner beginning July 2026. The university is currently under construction in the Itki area of Ranchi.

Initial Academic Offerings and Student Intake

In the first phase, the university will introduce several key programs. Students can enroll in MA in Applied Economics and MA in Development. The institution will also provide postgraduate diplomas in three specialized fields:

  • Local Development
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Educational Assessment

Additionally, the university plans to offer multiple short-term certificate courses. These courses will cover important areas such as public health, education, and development. Officials expect to admit approximately 240 students during this initial phase.

Foundation's Broader Educational Initiatives in Ranchi

The Azim Premji Foundation has been actively expanding its educational footprint in Ranchi. In January 2024, Chief Minister Hemant Soren laid the foundation stone for the foundation's medical college and hospital in the same Itki area. The state government leased around 146 acres of land to the foundation for a period of 99 years to support these projects.

University officials emphasized that the institution will operate in close coordination with the state government. This collaboration aims to ensure the university's programs align with regional educational needs and development goals.

The phased launch approach allows the university to establish its academic framework gradually. It will enable the institution to refine its courses based on initial feedback and evolving educational demands.
