BITS Pilani Advances Amaravati Campus Development with Major Land Acquisition
The prestigious Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani has officially solidified its plans to establish a significant new campus in Amaravati, marking a substantial advancement in the capital region's higher education landscape. This development represents a crucial step forward in enhancing Andhra Pradesh's academic infrastructure and creating new educational opportunities.
Land Agreement Formalizes Campus Establishment
A comprehensive land sale agreement was formally executed between BITS Pilani and the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA). The agreement secures 70.011 acres of prime land in Amaravati for the institution's new campus. The Andhra Pradesh government has specifically allocated this land in the Mandadam and Venkatapalem villages of Thullur mandal, demonstrating strong governmental support for this educational initiative.
The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of key officials from both organizations. Representing APCRDA was estates joint director V David Raju, while BITS Pilani was represented by its authorized signatory and deputy registrar, VVSN Murthy. The official registration process was completed before Mandadam sub-registrar CH Rambabu, ensuring all legal formalities were properly addressed.
Phased Development and Substantial Investment
BITS officials have outlined an ambitious three-phase development plan for the Amaravati campus. The institution plans to commence construction activities in the initial phase with an estimated investment of approximately Rs 1,000 crore. Overall, BITS Pilani is preparing to invest more than Rs 2,200 crore in developing this state-of-the-art educational facility, reflecting their long-term commitment to the region.
The institution has announced its intention to begin student admissions at the Amaravati campus from 2027. Through systematic phased expansion, the campus is ultimately expected to accommodate up to 10,000 students, creating a substantial educational hub in the capital region.
Economic and Employment Benefits
Beyond educational advancement, the proposed campus promises significant economic and employment benefits for the region. Officials emphasize that the project will:
