Student's Desperate Protest Shakes Daltonganj College Campus
A serious incident highlighting student distress over academic irregularities has come to light in Daltonganj. On Tuesday, a postgraduate student from Yodh Singh Namdhari Mahila College attempted to slash her veins in a desperate act of protest. The student, who is enrolled in the first year of the MA History course, took this extreme step on the college campus around 2 pm.
Background of Grievance and Official Complaint
The 21-year-old student, hailing from Chiyanki, had formally raised her concerns prior to the incident. On December 20, she personally met with Dinesh Kumar Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU), to which the college is affiliated. During the meeting, she submitted a written complaint detailing the persistent issue of irregular classes.
Her complaint also included allegations against a specific woman faculty member, whom she accused of behaving rudely with students. The student, described as coming from a financially poor background, reportedly incurs significant travel expenses to attend college, making the frequent cancellation of classes a particularly heavy burden.
University Launches Probe, Police Protect Identity
Following the alarming event, Vice Chancellor Dinesh Kumar Singh announced on Wednesday that the university has ordered a formal investigation. "We have launched a probe following her complaints. We don't know why the girl student resorted to such a thing," Singh stated.
SP Reeshma Rameshan confirmed the incident but did not disclose the identity of the young woman. The police officer provided details, noting, "She wounded the veins of her hand. The girl looked studious and anxious." This description underscores the mental strain and anxiety faced by the student amidst the ongoing academic disruptions.
