DAVV Introduces Expert-Level Re-Evaluation for Professional Course Exams
Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore has announced a significant overhaul of its evaluation system for professional courses, including MBA, BEd, and law programs. The university will implement an additional expert-level re-evaluation layer for answer sheets, a strategic move designed to restore student confidence and improve the accuracy of results. This decision follows repeated concerns from students regarding discrepancies in evaluation and unexpectedly low pass percentages in recent examinations.
Addressing Student Concerns Over Evaluation Discrepancies
The initiative comes in direct response to growing student dissatisfaction with the assessment process. University officials have stated that the new system aims to make evaluations more transparent, consistent, and reliable. Under the revised mechanism, answer sheets will not only be checked by initial examiners but will also undergo a second level of scrutiny by subject experts. Dedicated panels comprising experienced academicians will be formed across various faculties, with each team reviewing already evaluated copies to ensure marking accuracy and eliminate potential errors.
Background: Low Pass Percentages Spark Outcry
The issue gained significant attention after recent examination results revealed troubling statistics. In the BEd first semester examination, only 43 percent of students cleared the test, while the pass percentage in MBA core courses dropped to nearly 27 percent. Several student groups questioned the evaluation process and demanded rechecking through sampling, alleging improper assessment practices. These low pass rates prompted widespread protests and calls for a more robust evaluation framework.
University Officials Emphasize Transparency and Fairness
DAVV examination controller, Dr. Ashesh Tiwari, explained the rationale behind the new system. "Answer sheets were earlier evaluated more than once, but the absence of a structured expert filter led to delays and dissatisfaction after result declaration," he said. "The new system is expected to address these concerns before results are published, thereby reducing post-result disputes and protests." University authorities have acknowledged that the additional review stage may slightly delay result announcements. However, they emphasized that ensuring fairness and accuracy remains a top priority, particularly for professional courses where results play a crucial role in academic progression and career opportunities.
