DAVV Indore Announces Rs 26.5 Lakh Medal Honour for Academic Toppers

In a significant move to recognise academic excellence, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore has approved a budget of Rs 26.50 lakh for awarding medals to its top-performing students. This substantial allocation, part of a larger Rs 75 lakh budget for the upcoming convocation ceremony on February 17, is poised to be one of the highest amounts the university has ever dedicated to academic honours.

Medal Details and Distribution

The university plans to honour toppers from two consecutive academic sessions—2023–24 and 2024–25—with a total of 206 gold medals and 22 silver medals. On average, the provision works out to over Rs 11,000 per medal, with gold medals accounting for the bulk of the expenditure. Each gold medal is crafted on a 20-gram silver base, featuring a 24-carat gold coating of approximately 400 milligrams, rather than being made of solid gold. The rising costs of bullion, along with making charges and taxes, have contributed to the increased expense of these medals.

Stark Increase in Spending

The current medal provision marks a dramatic rise compared to the previous convocation in 2024, where DAVV spent around Rs 3 lakh on medals. At that time, the university procured 96 gold medals at Rs 2,500 each and 11 silver medals at Rs 2,000 each. The new budget of Rs 26.50 lakh represents a nearly tenfold increase, underscoring the institution's enhanced commitment to rewarding academic achievement.

Additional Budget Approvals

Beyond the medal procurement, the executive council has cleared several other financial provisions. These include:

  • Rs 14 lakh for purchasing tracksuits for players and team officials of the university's sports department.
  • Approximately Rs 15 lakh for the registration of the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Jhabua, with the Medical Council of India.
  • Administrative and financial provisions for the establishment of this institute in the 2026–27 budget.

Key Decisions and Honours

During the meeting, council members felicitated Dr. AK Dwivedi on his nomination to the Scientific Advisory Committee of NEIAH, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rakesh Singhai, Registrar Prajwal Khare, and other members extending their congratulations. The executive council also approved several important proposals:

  1. Increasing the vice-chancellor's financial approval limit from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
  2. Adopting the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Leave) Rules 2025 for university staff.
  3. Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Kahan Technologies for the free use of ERP software for a period of five years.

This comprehensive budget and policy approval reflect DAVV's ongoing efforts to enhance its academic and administrative frameworks, ensuring robust support for students and staff alike.
