Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore successfully conducted its online Doctoral Entrance Test (DET) 2025 on Sunday. The examination, which serves as the gateway for admissions into PhD programmes across various engineering disciplines, was marked by keen competition and was executed in an orderly and smooth manner.
High Stakes and Smooth Execution
The test was held in the second shift and commenced precisely on schedule. University officials reported a seamless process throughout the day, with no untoward incidents recorded at any of the examination centres. To ensure candidates were well-prepared, the university had organised three days of online mock tests prior to the main examination. These sessions were designed to familiarise aspirants with the test pattern and crucial time management strategies.
Subject-Wise Attendance: A Mixed Bag
The examination witnessed a total of 187 registered candidates, out of which 145 appeared for the test, resulting in 42 absences. The attendance, however, showed significant variation across different engineering subjects.
Pharmacy emerged as the most sought-after discipline, with an impressive 31 out of 34 registered candidates taking the test. Computer Engineering also demonstrated strong participation, with 28 appearances out of 31 registrations. Applied Chemistry and Applied Physics followed with solid turnout numbers of 16 out of 18 and 11 out of 13 candidates, respectively.
Conversely, a few streams recorded lower attendance. Data Science saw only 9 candidates appear from a pool of 14. The most notable dip was in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, where merely 3 out of 7 registered candidates were present. According to DET in-charge Prof Ashesh Tiwari, other subjects reported the following attendance:
- Statistics: 9 out of 15 candidates
- Mechanical Engineering: 6 out of 10 candidates
- Information Technology: 10 out of 14 candidates
Consolidated data confirms that out of 185 registered candidates (across subjects with provided data), 146 appeared and 39 were absent.
The Road Ahead for PhD Aspirants
The university has announced that the DET results for engineering subjects are expected to be declared by December 31, 2025. Following this, the admission process will move to the next critical phase.
As per the official PhD academic calendar, Research Advisory Committee (RAC) interviews for both DET-qualified and non-DET candidates are scheduled from the first week of January, likely spanning from January 1 to January 31, 2026. Interviews will be conducted for all subjects.
The final seat allocation will be based on merit. In courses where the number of qualifying candidates exceeds the available seats, admissions will be granted based on the interview merit list. The remaining candidates will be placed on a waiting list. Successful candidates will then begin their coursework classes in February 2026, with examinations tentatively set for June 2026. The university aims to declare the results of these coursework exams within 15 days of their completion.
