Indore's Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya is set to host its annual convocation on Tuesday morning, transforming the traditional academic ceremony into a streamlined event under a strictly enforced time frame. The packed auditorium at the Takshashila campus will witness rows of achievers adorned in traditional Malwi attire, as the university implements a redesigned sequence to maintain solemnity while adhering to a limited duration.
Strict Schedule and Procedural Changes
The ceremony, scheduled for 11:30 am, will be presided over by Chancellor Mangubhai Patel, who will remain present for exactly one hour and 15 minutes. This constrained timeframe has prompted the university to overhaul the event's structure, ensuring all academic honors are conferred without compromising the dignity of the occasion. In a significant departure from past practices, medal winners will approach the dais in groups of two or three rather than individually, and PhD scholars will be called in batches to receive their degrees. University authorities emphasize that these changes are purely procedural, designed to optimize time while preserving the ceremonial gravitas.
Academic Honors and Standout Achievers
A total of 217 gold and silver medals will be awarded during the convocation, highlighting academic excellence across disciplines. Two scholars will receive the prestigious DLitt degree, while 220 research scholars will be conferred with PhD degrees. Among the notable achievers, Sakshi Jain of BE Civil Engineering has secured six gold medals for the 2024-25 academic year, demonstrating exceptional prowess. Similarly, Bhavya Tripathi from the same discipline earned five gold medals for 2023-24, showcasing the university's commitment to fostering top-tier talent.
Traditional Attire and Regional Identity
The university has announced a detailed traditional dress code to enhance the cultural resonance of the event. Female students are required to wear a white or cream saree or suit, while male students must attend in a white or cream pyjama kurta. All participants will don the Malwi topi and uttariya, reflecting the regional identity of Madhya Pradesh. To distinguish academic levels, postgraduate students will wear golden brown jackets with lemon yellow uttariya, undergraduates will sport orange uttariya, and PhD scholars will have cream uttariya. Dignitaries on the dais will appear in coordinated ceremonial jackets and golden uttariya, adding to the visual harmony of the ceremony.
Preparation and Rehearsal
In preparation for the streamlined event, a full dress rehearsal was conducted on Monday. Medal recipients, research scholars, and university officials walked through the revised sequence, ensuring smooth execution of the group presentations and batch calls.
