The registration process for degree engineering courses in Gujarat for the new academic year commences today, as announced by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC). Prospective students can submit their applications online through the official portal until May 31, marking a critical deadline for those aspiring to pursue engineering in the state.
Seat Distribution and Availability
A total of 78,611 seats are up for grabs across various institutions. This includes:
- 10,957 seats in 16 government and three grant-in-aid colleges.
- 156 seats in one autonomous institution.
- The majority of seats, a significant share, are allocated across 120 self-financed colleges.
In a positive development, the state government is anticipated to add approximately 2,500 more seats in government colleges, with an official announcement expected soon. This expansion aims to accommodate the growing demand for engineering education. For context, last year, admissions were granted to 41,442 seats, highlighting a substantial increase in opportunities this cycle.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
Eligibility is strictly limited to candidates who have appeared for either GujCET 2026, JEE 2026, or both. Students who took these exams in previous academic years but not in the current year are not eligible to apply. Those who passed through supplementary examinations must ensure they upload all relevant mark sheets during the registration process.
Candidates awaiting results from improvement exams need not worry, as their updated scores will be automatically considered by the system, streamlining the admission procedure.
Academic Requirements and Quota Details
As per guidelines set by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), general category students must have secured a minimum of 45% in Class 12, while reserved category candidates require at least 40%. These criteria ensure a standardized benchmark for academic performance.
Self-financed institutes will independently fill 50% of their seats, which includes management quota allocations. Within this quota, 15% of seats are reserved for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates, providing opportunities for international students.
Important Advisory for Applicants
Students are strongly advised to meticulously follow the official guidelines and regular updates issued on the ACPC website. This diligence is crucial to avoid errors during the application process and to ensure a smooth admission experience. With the registration window now open, timely action and adherence to protocols are key to securing a seat in Gujarat's engineering colleges.
