Gujarat PG Medical Admissions: 2,119 Seats Allotted, 254 Vacant After First Round
Gujarat PG Medical First Round: 2,119 Seats Allotted

The long-awaited postgraduate (PG) medical admission process in Gujarat has taken a significant step forward. The first round of seat allotment was finally completed on Tuesday, bringing relief to thousands of aspiring doctors across the state.

First Round Allotment Details and Vacancies

In this crucial first phase, a total of 2,119 candidates secured admission to various medical colleges offering MD, MS, and Diploma courses. The admissions were conducted for the state quota seats, following the conclusion of the All India Quota process. However, the round concluded with 254 seats remaining unfilled across different quota categories.

The admission committee had a merit list containing 4,829 eligible candidates. Out of these, 4,572 students actively participated by submitting their preferred choices for colleges and courses. The allotment was made based on their merit rank and the preferences they entered.

The vacant seats are distributed among specific quotas: 94 seats in the government quota, 143 in the NRI quota, and 17 in the in-service quota. These vacant seats will now be carried forward to the subsequent counselling rounds.

Critical Deadlines and Next Steps for Candidates

Students who have successfully been allotted a seat in this first round must act swiftly to confirm their admission. The Admission Committee for Professional Postgraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPGMEC) has set a strict timeline.

Allotted candidates must complete their fee payment online by December 5. Following the payment, they are required to physically report to the assigned college for admission completion by December 6. Failure to meet these deadlines will result in the cancellation of the allotted seat, which will then be added to the pool for the next round of counselling.

Boost in Seat Capacity for Future Rounds

In a positive development for future aspirants, the state government has approved a substantial increase in the number of available PG medical seats. An additional 232 seats have been sanctioned across eight private medical colleges in Gujarat.

The colleges receiving new seats are:

  • Swaminarayan Medical College: 53 seats
  • Ananya Medical College: 24 seats
  • Kiran Medical College: 48 seats
  • CU Shah Medical College: 37 seats
  • MK Medical College: 22 seats
  • Parul Medical College: 11 seats
  • Nootan Medical College: 27 seats
  • DD University Nadiad Medical College: 18 seats

This enhancement boosts the total number of PG medical seats in Gujarat from 2,373 to 2,605. Officials noted that while the sanctioned increase is lower than what the institutions had requested, the expansion will still provide significant opportunities for local medical graduates in the upcoming counselling rounds.

Since the approval for these new seats came after the choice-filling process for the first round was over, they were not included in this allotment. These 232 newly added seats will be available for candidates in the second round of counselling, offering fresh hope and more options for those who missed out in the initial phase.
