IIM Trichy Marks 14th Convocation with 507 Graduating Students
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Trichy successfully conducted its 14th annual convocation ceremony on Saturday. The event was graced by Vijay Sankar, Chairman of The Sanmar Group, who served as the chief guest for the prestigious occasion.
Graduation Numbers Across Programmes
A total of 507 students received their degrees across various management programmes. The breakdown included:
- 407 graduates from the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM)
- 50 graduates from the PGPM in Human Resources (PGPM-HR)
- 50 graduates from the Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM)
- 3 doctoral scholars who earned their PhD degrees
The convocation ceremony was presided over by Jalaj Dani, Chairman of the IIM Trichy Board of Governors. Director (in-charge) Godwin Tennyson was also present throughout the proceedings.
Academic and Research Achievements Highlighted
While presenting the institute's annual report, Director Tennyson emphasized significant academic progress. He noted that faculty members had published 56 research papers in peer-reviewed journals during the academic year. Additionally, the institute organized 17 research seminars to foster academic discourse and knowledge sharing.
Tennyson also highlighted the institute's strong industry engagement, with 66 industry experts contributing to curriculum development. Through executive education programmes, IIM Trichy trained more than 1,400 professionals, strengthening its corporate connections.
Robust Placement Performance
The placement season demonstrated continued strength, with 274 companies participating in the recruitment process. These companies extended 367 job offers to students from the PGPM programme alone.
Key sectors that recruited heavily from IIM Trichy included:
- Banking and Finance
- Information Technology and Analytics
- Management Consulting
- Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)
- Manufacturing
Leadership Addresses on Values and Decision-Making
In his address to the graduating class, Board Chairman Jalaj Dani emphasized the importance of clarity in decision-making during times of uncertainty. He encouraged graduates to develop this crucial skill as they embark on their professional journeys.
Chief guest Vijay Sankar focused on essential qualities for long-term success, highlighting resilience, persistence, and social responsibility as fundamental attributes that would serve graduates throughout their careers.
Global Recognition and Student Achievements
The institute has significantly expanded its international presence through collaborations with 16 universities worldwide. These partnerships enhance global learning opportunities for students and faculty alike.
IIM Trichy maintained its strong position in national rankings, securing the 16th rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 for management institutions.
Beyond academics, students demonstrated excellence in extracurricular activities:
- Achieved third place at the inter-IIM sports meet hosted by IIM Bangalore
- Earned recognition as joint national winners at the prestigious CFA Institute Research Challenge
The convocation ceremony celebrated not only academic accomplishments but also the holistic development of students, preparing them to become future leaders in the business world.
