IIT Bhubaneswar and GMRICS Ink Strategic MoU to Boost Mining and Geology Research
In a significant move to advance earth sciences education and innovation, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has recently formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Mineral Research Industrial Consultancy Society (GMRICS). This landmark agreement is set to strengthen long-term academic and research collaboration, with a primary focus on geology, mining, mineral exploration, and allied earth sciences disciplines.
Five-Year Partnership Aligned with National Education Policy-2020
The comprehensive five-year pact establishes a strategic partnership between the two institutions, centered on research, education, and training initiatives. Key objectives include fostering collaborative research projects, facilitating knowledge exchange, and promoting capacity building and skill development. This collaboration is meticulously designed to align with the goals and frameworks outlined in the National Education Policy-2020, ensuring that the efforts contribute to national educational reforms and industry needs.
Enhanced Opportunities for Students and Researchers
As a core component of this partnership, GMRICS will play a pivotal role in providing industrial training, internships, and field-based research opportunities for IIT Bhubaneswar students. This hands-on exposure is aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the mining sector. Additionally, students will have the chance to pursue advanced academic programs, including BSc, MSc, MTech, and PhD research, with topics specifically related to mineral exploration and mining activities. GMRICS, a research society established by the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited (GMDC), brings valuable industry expertise and resources to this collaboration.
International Conference on Air Defence Concludes Successfully
In a separate development, the two-day International Conference on Air Defence and Security (ICADS-2026) held at NIST University concluded on Friday. The event was jointly organized by the Army Air Defence College and the university, attracting a diverse gathering of experts, defence personnel, researchers, and academics. Participants engaged in in-depth deliberations on emerging challenges and technological advancements in the field of air defence and security. Organizers reported that the conference received an impressive total of over 350 abstracts from researchers across various institutions and industries, with 57 of these being accepted for publication in the prestigious IEEE conference proceedings.
Rourkela Institute of Management Studies Celebrates Graduation Day
Meanwhile, the Rourkela Institute of Management Studies (RIMS) recently celebrated its 'graduation day' and 'performers' day' in a special ceremony. The event saw Vice-Chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Amiya Kumar Rath, conferring graduation certificates on approximately 60 students. In recognition of excellence, at least 25 students were felicitated for their outstanding achievements in both academic and non-academic domains. Secretary of RIMS, Arya Patnaik, expressed appreciation for Vice-Chancellor Rath's efforts in ensuring that university examination results were declared within a remarkably short timeframe of two days.
