In a significant move to bolster aviation safety expertise in India, the IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation has partnered with France's prestigious L’Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC) to launch a specialised training programme. This joint initiative, supported by aerospace giant Airbus, is designed to enhance professional capacity and structured safety practices within the country's rapidly growing civil aviation sector.
Programme Structure and Target Audience
The Aviation Safety Management (ASM) programme is meticulously crafted for working professionals across the aviation ecosystem. This includes mid-level and senior managers from airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, maintenance organisations, training institutions, and civil aviation authorities. The course aims to equip safety managers and experts with advanced skills in safety performance evaluation, risk management, and organisational safety practices.
The training will follow a blended, in-person format over two years. The first year involves sessions of four to five days every two months, while the second year intensifies with similar sessions monthly. A key component is a six-month project or dissertation, ensuring practical application of learned concepts. Notably, faculty members from ENAC will travel to the IIT Madras campus to conduct these sessions, bringing international expertise directly to Indian participants.
Key Details and Application Timeline
The programme is now accepting applications for its second batch, scheduled to commence in February 2026. Aspiring candidates have until January 31, 2026, to submit their applications. To ensure personalised attention and high-quality interaction, the organisers have capped the batch intake at approximately 30 participants. The first batch of the ASM programme is currently underway, with organisers citing encouraging feedback from existing participants.
The curriculum covers both the technical and operational dimensions of aviation safety. Beyond core technicalities, it also addresses crucial behavioural and managerial competencies such as communication, leadership, decision-making, and fostering a robust safety culture within organisations.
Driving Force Behind the Collaboration
According to an official statement from the foundation, this programme is a direct response to the growing complexity of the civil aviation sector and the escalating need for formalised safety management frameworks. The CEO of IITM Pravartak emphasised that modern aviation safety demands professionals who possess a balanced mix of technical expertise and sharp operational judgement, a gap this course aims to fill.
IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, a Section 8 company, hosts a Technology Innovation Hub supported by the Government of India. Through this collaboration with ENAC and industry partners like Airbus, the ASM programme is positioned as a structured training pathway for aviation professionals aiming to excel in a dynamic and expanding aviation environment.
