IIT Madras Launches Admissions for 2026-27 Postgraduate Courses
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras), has officially opened the application window for its diverse range of postgraduate programs for the academic year 2026-27. This includes prestigious offerings in MTech, MSc, and MA disciplines, catering to students across the nation seeking advanced education in engineering, sciences, and humanities.

The institute is offering an impressive array of 34 MTech programs, designed to align with cutting-edge technological and industrial demands. Key specializations encompass aerospace engineering, data science and artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, robotics, semiconductor materials technology, and ocean engineering, among others. For students inclined towards the arts and social sciences, IIT Madras provides MA programs in English studies, development studies, economics, and public policy. Additionally, MSc programs are available in core sciences such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
Admission Details and Eligibility Criteria
Prospective candidates must note that the last date to apply online is April 26. Applications are to be submitted exclusively through the official portal. According to Professor Prathap Haridoss, Dean of Academic Courses, a total of 753 seats are available in MTech programs, along with 100 seats in MA programs. He emphasized that GATE-qualified candidates from across India are encouraged to apply to benefit from the institute's innovative academic ecosystem.
Eligibility for these programs is broad and includes:
- GATE-qualified applicants from the years 2024, 2025, or 2026.
- IIT graduates with a CGPA of 8.0 or higher.
- Sponsored candidates from recognized organizations.
- Other categories such as Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) and defence-sponsored candidates.
For MSc admissions, the process will be conducted through the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) examination. Meanwhile, MA admissions are also routed through GATE for eligible candidates, ensuring a streamlined and merit-based selection process.
