Indore's Educational Landscape Set for Significant Expansion
The city of Indore is poised for substantial growth in technical and management education with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) opening applications for new institutes. This development promises to broaden professional education choices for students beginning next academic year.
New Institutes and Growing Numbers
According to official records from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore currently hosts 76 management colleges offering more than 15,000 seats. The coming academic year will see this number increase with two additional management institutes expected to join the educational ecosystem. Furthermore, a new engineering college will commence operations, raising the city's total engineering institutions to 39 colleges.
Rajeev Dixit, Dean of DAVV's College Development Council, confirmed the development stating, "We have received applications for opening two new management colleges. The application cycle usually brings several proposals from Indore and this year is no different. The demand for management and engineering seats has remained consistent."
AICTE Application Process and Timeline
The AICTE has initiated online applications for the 2026–27 academic cycle, with the application window opening from November 28 and closing on January 12. The process accommodates both new institutions and existing colleges requiring renewal approval for programs including MBA, BTech, MTech and related courses.
The council has established specific deadlines for different categories:
- Existing colleges must apply between November 28 and December 20
- Institutions offering BBA and BCA programs have a separate window from December 18 to January 12
- Applications with late fees will be accepted from January 13 to 20
This year, AICTE has streamlined the process by shifting new campus applications to the National Single Window System available at nsws.gov.in. City administrators believe this centralized approach will help maintain the approval schedule efficiently.
Broader Educational Opportunities
The expansion extends beyond traditional programs to include management and computer application courses in open and distance learning formats, as well as online modes. AICTE has also opened doors for establishing new universities offering diverse programs in:
- Engineering and technology
- Management studies
- Computer applications
- Applied arts and craft
- Hotel management and catering technology
- Design and planning
All private universities, deemed universities, and existing institutes offering these courses must seek mandatory approval through this process.
Educational principals across Indore view this expansion as a positive indicator reflecting the steady rise in demand for professional courses. With new institutes on the horizon and a structured approval process underway, Indore's reputation as an educational hub is set to strengthen further in the coming year.
