Madras University Teams Up with Samsung to Train 5,000 Students in Cutting-Edge Tech

The University of Madras in Chennai has launched an ambitious training program in partnership with Samsung. This initiative aims to equip 5,000 students with skills in artificial intelligence, big data, internet of things, and coding. The university officially started the Samsung Innovation Campus on Thursday, marking a significant step in tech education.

First Batch of Students Begins Training

Fifty students have already enrolled in the first batch of this program. These students come from diverse academic backgrounds including computer science, information technology, business administration, computer applications, and commerce. They will receive intensive training in artificial intelligence as part of the initial phase.

Comprehensive Training Structure

The AI program spans two months with a total of 270 hours of classroom instruction. Students will also complete an 80-hour capstone project to apply their learning. For IoT and big data courses, the training includes 240 hours divided into 160 hours of classroom sessions and 80 hours of project-based work.

Coding and programming modules offer 80 hours of training followed by a three-day hackathon. This hands-on approach ensures students gain practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge.

Globally Recognized Curriculum

Ekansh Raj, senior manager at the Electronics Sector Skill Council of India, emphasized the quality of these courses. "Samsung's global research and development team designed these programs," he explained. "They are currently offered in 63 countries worldwide, and the certificates students earn enjoy global recognition."

ESSCI will provide the certification for these courses, adding credibility to the qualifications students receive.

Expansion Plans Across University

P S Manjula, dean of students' affairs at the University of Madras, outlined their expansion strategy. "We plan to train 500 students within our university departments initially," she stated. "Samsung has committed to supporting placement opportunities for these trained students. We will eventually extend this program to all our affiliated colleges."

The university intends to make these certificate courses available across all its branches, creating widespread access to tech education.
