Mangalore University Unveils 'Our Walk Towards Mangalore University' Initiative
In a novel approach to bridge the gap between higher education institutions and their students, Mangalore University has launched a groundbreaking initiative titled 'Our Walk Towards Mangalore University'. This program aims to transform the university campus into a revered space of learning, much like temples, mosques, and churches are for spiritual seekers.
Inspiring Students Through Campus Exploration
Vice-Chancellor Prof PL Dharma, while addressing the gathering at the launch event held during the release of the Swastik National Business School newsletter, emphasized the importance of this initiative. "Just as devotees are drawn to places of worship, a university too can be seen as a sanctum of knowledge and reverence," he stated. The program is designed to familiarize students from various affiliated colleges with the university's extensive facilities and vibrant academic environment.
The inspiration for this initiative stemmed from a recent National Service Scheme (NSS) camp organized by Swastik National Business School on the university campus. During this camp, students had the opportunity to explore:
- Various academic departments and specialized laboratories
- Advanced research centers with international standards
- The comprehensive university library system
- The expansive botanical garden with rare species
- Other campus amenities and facilities
Green Campus Initiatives and Achievements
Prof Dharma highlighted the university's commitment to environmental sustainability, noting that Mangalore University has secured the 3rd position in India in the prestigious Green Metrics ranking. This achievement results from collective efforts to maintain an eco-friendly campus, including the innovative practice of planting saplings on students' birthdays.
The campus boasts:
- Internationally recognized laboratories for cutting-edge research
- Specialized research centers across multiple disciplines
- A well-maintained botanical garden spanning three acres
- Sustainable infrastructure supporting academic excellence
Collaborative Efforts for Botanical Garden Development
Dr Raghavendra Holla, Chairman of Swastik National Business School, announced an ambitious plan to conserve and develop the university's botanical garden. This three-acre green space houses rare plants, trees, and medicinal herbs of significant botanical value.
The conservation project will be undertaken in collaboration with the Rotary Club under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof PL Dharma, ensuring proper maintenance and enhancement of this valuable ecological resource.
Distinguished Presence at the Launch Event
The initiative launch witnessed participation from several academic dignitaries including:
- Prof Ganesh Sanjeev, Registrar (Evaluation)
- Prof Devendrappa, Finance Officer
- Panchalinga Swamy, Retired Professor
- Dr Shaani, Academic Representative
- Dr Raghavendra Holla, President of Swastik National Business School
This comprehensive initiative represents Mangalore University's commitment to creating an inclusive, engaging, and environmentally conscious academic environment that inspires students to explore, learn, and contribute to the institution's legacy of excellence.
