Mangalore University has secured an impressive position in the latest environmental sustainability rankings. The institution ranked third in India and 127th worldwide in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for 2025.
What Are the GreenMetric Rankings?
The University of Indonesia releases these rankings annually. They focus specifically on green campus initiatives and environmental sustainability. The rankings measure how committed universities are to protecting our environment. They also assess the practical steps institutions take toward sustainability.
PL Dharma, the vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, explained the ranking process. He stated that the UI GreenMetric system evaluates universities based on their green campus efforts. The assessment looks at environmental sustainability initiatives across several key areas.
How Mangalore University Performed in Different Categories
The university's performance was evaluated across six specific criteria. These criteria provide a comprehensive view of environmental efforts.
- Setting and Infrastructure (SI): Mangalore University achieved first place in India.
- Energy and Climate Change (EC): The university secured fourth position nationally.
- Waste (WS): It ranked sixth in the country.
- Water (WR): Another sixth place finish nationally.
- Education and Research (ED): The institution placed tenth in India.
- Transportation (TR): It ranked eleventh nationally.
The Scale of the 2025 Rankings
The 2025 rankings involved significant participation from institutions worldwide. A total of 100 Indian universities took part in the assessment. Globally, the rankings included 1,745 institutions from 105 different countries. The University of Indonesia announced these results in December 2025.
This achievement highlights Mangalore University's strong commitment to environmental responsibility. The rankings demonstrate how the institution integrates sustainability into campus operations and academic programs.
