MDSU Vice Chancellor Officially Redesignated as Kulguru in Key Board Meeting
The vice chancellor of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University (MDSU) will now be formally addressed as kulguru, following a significant decision taken during the 114th meeting of the university's management board held on Tuesday. This change marks a notable shift in the university's administrative terminology and structure.
Comprehensive Agenda and Key Decisions
Kulguru Prof Suresh Kumar Agarwal, who chaired the meeting, revealed that the board discussed an extensive 17-point agenda. Among the critical items were the confirmation of Prof Subhash Chandra and Prof Arvind Pareek, along with a decision to forward a revised roster for teacher recruitment to the state government for approval.
The board also addressed pressing issues such as encroached university land, resolving to compile a detailed list and submit it to the divisional commissioner for necessary action. This move aims to safeguard university property and ensure proper land management.
Financial and Administrative Approvals
In financial matters, the meeting approved the interest rate for the General Provident Fund for the 2024-25 fiscal year, benefiting teachers, officers, and employees. Additionally, the board cleared budget provisions for 2026-27, including a substantial Rs 50 crore allocation for the pension fund to secure post-retirement benefits for staff.
The board further resolved to send a proposal to the chancellor and Rajasthan governor to amend university statutes, aligning them with updates to the University Act of 1987. This step is intended to modernize the university's regulatory framework.

To boost institutional growth, the board authorized the kulguru to form committees focused on:
- Increasing student admissions
- Promoting research, innovation, and startups
- Overseeing the implementation of Learning Management System and University Management System
In academic developments, the board decided to convert the Mathematics department from a self-financed to a regular course, enhancing its accessibility and integration into the core curriculum. A proposal for purchasing a new vehicle was also approved to be sent to the state government.
Formal Enforcement and Compliance
The meeting concluded with the formal enforcement of the notification replacing the vice chancellor designation with kulguru. The board accepted guidelines issued by the governor's secretariat regarding university funds, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
