Nagpur University Issues Corrigendum for 2025-26 Academic Calendar

Nagpur University (NU) has released a corrigendum partially revising the academic calendar for the 2025-26 session. This move comes after concerns were raised by Senate member Manmohan Bajpai regarding the lack of clarity on the extension of the academic session and the summer vacation schedule. The revision follows a decision taken by the Academic Council during its meeting on March 7.

Key Changes in the Revised Schedule

According to the revised schedule, the second term for even semesters and annual pattern courses, which commenced on November 10, 2025, will now conclude on April 30, 2026. This represents an extension of 15 days from the earlier end date of April 15, 2026. Consequently, the summer vacation has been rescheduled to run from May 1 to June 15. However, the corrigendum remains silent on crucial points such as the start of summer exams, the beginning of the second term, and the commencement of the new academic session.

Senate Members Question University's Approach

Senate members and faculty from affiliated colleges have expressed significant concerns about the university's handling of the academic calendar. They have questioned the use of the term 'Shudhipatra' or corrigendum, suggesting that NU should have called it a comprehensive academic calendar revision instead. "The academic calendar was passed by the Academic Council, a statutory body. Does it mean the council made a mistake which is being corrected?" they asked.

Furthermore, they pointed out that the academic calendar mentions March 9 and 10 as start dates for summer exams, but NU has yet to announce the summer exam timetable. The corrigendum implies that exams have started, but in reality, results for nearly 60% of the winter 2025 exams are still pending, with no word from the administration on completing them. "The second term never started from Nov 10 as delayed winter exams continued till Feb end. This is a major blunder," they stated.

Bajpai Calls for Clarity and Task Force

Manmohan Bajpai has emphasized the need for a new notification on the academic schedule to provide clarity, particularly regarding summer exam start dates. "At least summer exam start dates should have been mentioned. However, how are students going to plan their future?" he said. Bajpai has also urged the university administration to constitute a dedicated task force to address delays in examinations and result declarations that have disrupted the academic session.

He highlighted that pending winter examination results, along with supplementary exams and upcoming summer exams, are creating a backlog that could impact the smooth commencement of the new session. Bajpai warned that final-year students would be the worst affected, as delays might hinder their competitive exams and admission timelines. He has called for forming a team of experienced principals, teachers, officers, and staff to work on a "war footing" to ensure timely decisions, cautioning against over-reliance on software systems. Bajpai has expressed willingness to participate in discussions to help find practical solutions to these ongoing issues.
